When would you cut yourself off of driving 14 hours?
My grandmother is in her final days and lives in Cincinnati. Although she will be buried next to my grandfather in NJ, all services will be in Ohio. We no longer have that side of the family in NJ. Due to circumstances, the services may not be held until mid July. That will put me around 30 weeks. If you were in good health, would you contemplate this trip?

At 30 weeks - I would do it if everything was going well with the pregnancy. I'd just be sure to take frequent breaks to use the bathroom and stretch your legs.
Sorry about your grandmother

I would fly at 30 weeks before I'd ride in a car for 14 hours. Is that possibly an option? Definitely discuss it with your OB. They'll have the best advice. I'm curious what they'll say, too.
So sorry to hear about your grandmother.

I would drive.. I did it at 35 weeks. I just made sure I was well hydrated and stopped to stretch and walk around every two hours...

Can you fly instead? I'd be more comfortable doing that...

Unfortunately, flying is not an option for me. Plus, my husband and son will be coming.

In good health, I'd go. But plan on making lots of stops (or even stretching the drive into two days).

Like others have said, if you feel good, I would do it! Stop for breaks, move your legs and frequently use the bathroom. But you'll be ok! I wouldn't prob do a trip that length past 32 weeks.

Re: When would you cut yourself off of driving 14 hours?
I would break it into a two or three day trip with frequent breaks for each direction. I traveled 5 hours one way at 27 weeks and that was difficult. I ended up on bed rest a few weeks later though. I am so sorry.

Re: When would you cut yourself off of driving 14 hours?
I would if my ob said ok and my pregnancy was going smoothly ~ make sure you stop plenty and walk around and even when in the car do ankle exercises.
How can I prevent DVT while traveling? • When in a plane, bus, or train for more than 3 hours, stand up and take a short walk down the aisle every hour. If this is not convenient, do some leg exercises, such as bending the toes up and then relaxing them, or raising your heels while you press down on the front of your feet. • When traveling by car for more than 3 hours, stop every hour and take a short walk. • Avoid taking sleeping pills while traveling. • Wear loose clothing. • Keep your legs uncrossed. • Drink plenty of water

Thanks for all of this! Although I highly doubt I could go more than 3 hours without peeing, so that shouldn't be a problem.
