Hospital copay?
I called my insurance company to find out if a breast pump is covered. Not only is the pump not covered, but I found out there will be a $250 copay charged per day I'm in the hospital. Is this typical? I guess it's good I called and found out so we didn't get hit with a large unexpected bill when the baby comes!

Re: Hospital copay?
Do you usually have copays for everything? We have a high deductible ($3k) that we pay out of pocket for everything, then once it's hit we don't pay anything.
When I had DD, it was at the beginning of our year and I paid out of pocket. My entire hospital bill was only $2800 and by paying it early I only paid $2400. I was shocked! This time, we've hit our deductible for the year already so it should all be covered.
Sorry your pump isn't covered. Nothing was covered for me either but I ended up renting one for the first month last time.
Did you pre-pay your OB's office? Mine had me prepay the entire pregnancy's expected bills both this time and last pregnancy. Last time I got a partial refund, though, since they sent my delivery bill in after the hospital sent theirs and I hit the deductible in between.
Being an adult (especially a pregnant adult) is so expensive!

For normal doctor visits, not pregnancy-related, we pay a $25 copay. And for pregnancy related OB visits, I don't get charged a copay. I only have to pay copays for ultrasounds and bloodwork. So I guess that's good at least. I just couldn't believe the copay for the hospital is so high! They did say that even though its $250 a day, they'll only charge up to a maximum of $750, so I guess if I end up with a c-section and am there for 4 days, I get the last day free?
I'm really curious, for the ladies who DID get their breast pumps covered and/or did not have a hospital copay, what insurance do you have? (mine's GHI)

Re: Hospital copay?
We have a $250 (one time fee copay for hospital) and 90% of hospital stay is covered.
It is always good to find out in advance than receiving unexpected bills

Also just make sure you budget for the Drs bills cause that is all separate.
Your Dr, the Ped and other Dr if needed the anethesiologist if you are getting drugs and then if its a csection you may have more bills.
I had to pay almost 2k for my delivery and hospital stay when it was all said and done.

Re: Hospital copay?
When DH called our insurance they told us we have a $250 one time copay and we pay 10% of bills after that but there is a cap. We were given 3 different numbers for the cap and we're still not sure how much we're responsible for. Also, the $250 one time copay I believe applies to both the mother and newborn so it's $500 all together.
Is your baby going on the same health plan? You should find out if it's $250 per night for you and the baby. Or will each patient be billed separtely.

Re: Hospital copay?
That is very expensive even if it is for you and the baby. My copy is $150 for me and $150 for baby regardless of days.
