Anyone here have PCOS and get pregnant

Just hoping for insight on what you did if you had PCOS to help get pregnant. Did you do IUI's , IVF, clomid. Anything you can share would be helpful.

Have PCOS and got pregnant twice just out of sheer luck and some patience. With #1, I was getting my period pretty much regularly 8 times a year or so. My cycles were around 34 days some "months" and then 59 days the other months. We just tried to keep our chances up by BDing every 3 days or so. I tried to follow other signs like EWCM if there were any. But really, I think we were just super lucky. The month we conceived, we only did it once the whole week.

I didn't get my first PP period until 10.5 months after DD was born. My OB said I'd have to go on metformin in order to ovulate regularly. We were going to talk to him about doing that starting this summer. But somehow I got pregnant in January.

If you have PCOS and do ovulate (however infrequent), it's a lot about luck and catching that perfect moment.

Good luck to you & baby dust! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Anyone here have PCOS and get pregnant

I have PCOS and was told by multiple doctors that it would be hard to get pregnant. I had no way of knowing how or when I was ovulating really because I never got a regular period. But then I got pregnant practically on my first try. But I was preparing my body months before. I was exercising often which seemed to help me regulate my period a bit more than usual (I usually didn't get it at all- was still getting it like every other month and at different levels of intensity- but it was helping me build somewhat of a schedule). I also listened to all the old wives tales (I sat with my legs raised up afterwards in bed for about 15 minutes before getting up and/or going to the bathroom). We (DH and I) also BOTH stopped drinking alcohol when we were TTC. I truly believe that helps. We did not use any lubrications or anything that has been cited as lowering the sperm count. And I tracked my cervical mucus. There were some days where I just knew... oh I must be ovulating and told DH we had to try. We tried once a day, every day for a week.

Re: Anyone here have PCOS and get pregnant

I have pcos and I have a beautiful dd 19 months and I'm pg with number 2 (32 weeks). Both pg were convinced via clomid iui and the help of the RE. My dd took 7 months and a few failed cycles to conceive. This pg was conceived after our first month back at the RE.

I have pcos but my blood levels were within normal range and I was not insulin resistant. I had irregular cycles and lots of cysts on my ovaries. I also didn't ovulate most cycles. I got pregnant on my first clomid iui cycle. If you have pcos I would recommend seeing an RE. I went as soon as we started trying bc I knew I didn't ovulate and wanted to be monitored more closely than my obgyn would do. Good luck!

it took us 18 months and IVF to get pregnant with my DD, but i did get pregnant twice during the 18m but both were chemical.

before seeing an RE I ovulated once in 6 months so at that point i knew i would need meds if i wanted to have a baby.

Re: Anyone here have PCOS and get pregnant

I have PCOS and dont respond at all to clomid, this was always the RE's first course of action with me. W/ my ExH we did a round of clomid with an IUI that didnt work and then did an injectable cycle with an IUI that produced alot of follicles but also didnt work.

With Fiance when we knew we wanted to start trying I went straight to a different RE and he bypassed the clomid and started me right on Follistim injections (75mg) combined with back to back IUI's and the first month trying it worked.

In between when I was trying with my ExH and my Fiance I lost about 35 pounds and got in way better shape so I think that helped alot too.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Anyone here have PCOS and get pregnant

Not to freak you out, but here is my "story" I cut and pasted from Pg after IF (it isn't typical, but sometimes it is a longer road than expected):

-------------------------------------------------------

I already had my baby but I'll play!

I was dx with PCOS long before I even met Dh so I knew it wasn't going to be "easy" but boy oh boy, never knew just how hard it was going to be!

All total took us 4.5 years (3+ with professional help), treatment with 3 RE's plus one consult with a 4th, too many IUI's to count and 2 failed IVF's. One we never even transferred, only had 1 embryo peter out before day 5 (my decision to push to day 5). And a MIRACLE SURGERY! In all those years never had a BFP, not so much as a chemical. Turns out (tx to Dr. Braverman's quick thinking) I had egg quality issues and the PCOS was the least of my problems. I responded to the drugs and ovulated but the eggs were never going to make viable embryos. On a positive note, DH had great little swimmers, so we were free and clear on his end.
Finally, we stared talking donor egg. I pulled out my wild card: Ovarian Drilling Surgery. It can cause ovarian failure but I figured if we were talking donor egg then it wouldn't matter if my ovaries failed completely anyway and it might help. So, Dr. B was on board, found a surgeon that was skilled with this very rare procedure (though BIG in the UK) and withing weeks I was ovulating on my own. Did a medicated IUI, BFN. Had a cysts after that so had to go on BCP. Decided one last push at IVF (since I was on BCP anyway). Well, my new and improved ovaries busted out 2 follies in a few days. We converted to an IUI...

37 weeks later I gave birth to my little lovey, my raison d'etre.

And that is how I got here!!

Re: Anyone here have PCOS and get pregnant

I have PCOS, autoimmune and clotting issues. I am pregnant with my third child. It took 6 months on Met for #1. When #1 was a year old we decided to start trying even though I was still nursing. I went back on Met only to find out I was still pregnant. With #3 I got pregnant my third month on met.

I have PCOS - I do not ovulate on my own and have never had a regular period in my life. When I wasn't on BCP, I'd get AF maybe 2x year if I was lucky.

I got pregnant with my DS (now 16mo) with the help of a RE. He was concevied after my first injectable/IUI cycle.

I am now 5w pregnant with DC#2 and conceived after my first injectable/IUI cycle again!!

I count my blessings everyday and I really hope this little bean sticks! Chat Icon

I had ovarian drilling done in 2009 and was told that it acts as a "reset" and boy did it! I got preggo very easily over a few years although unfortunately there's some other unidentified underlying issue.

Re: Anyone here have PCOS and get pregnant

I have PCOS and I've been pregnant three times. First time was natural, ended in miscarriage. Second time took almost two years and IVF to get pregnant with DD1 and DD2 was conceived naturally.

Re: Anyone here have PCOS and get pregnant

I have PCOS, but also other issues, including a chromosomal translocation. I got PG twice on my own and twice through IUI, but all ended in early losses. I finally got successfully PG through my first IVF, and am now 31 weeks.

Ladies thank you all for your replies. I'm going to speak to my OB about options. Not sure IUI and IVF are an option because our insurance doesn't over any of IF issuesChat Icon and we do not have that kind of money saved for a cycle :-/

Re: Anyone here have PCOS and get pregnant

I have PCOS and tried 3 rounds of Clomid and 1 IUI, nothing worked. I then did IVF and it worked! I am now pregnant with twins. I believe that if we only transferred 1 egg and not 2 we still would have had success and had 1 baby. We went to LI IVF and saw Dr. Steven Brenner. It couldn't have been a better experience. However, the process is a hassle but worth it in the end.Chat Icon
