For the long-time (>8 month) boobie-feeders...

I need help!!! I'm BF'ing my 11 month old (and want to continue for AT LEAST 1 year)...have never stopped, but have slowed a bit since she's started eating more solids. However, in the last 2 weeks, we all got the horrible stomach bug that's been going around. When my daughter had it, I pumped to keep up my supply. A week ago, I was getting a good 3-5 oz in one pumping session. Just the last couple days, my daughter has become frustrated on the boob, so I decided to pump a few times throughout the last couple days (not after she BF'd), & I barely got 1/2 oz each time!!! Anyone else experience this? Any tips on how you got your supply to go back up after it dwindling? I've heard of it happening when you supplement with formula or stop BF'ing for a while, but I haven't stopped. Please help!

You could be dehydrated because of the virus, are you drinking lots of water?

Tons! I always drink a ton of water (prob 10-12 cups/day). Might still be a little dehydrated from the virus, but even if I pump after drinking 4 cups, I still get minimal. :(

I was going to say dehydration too. I would try drinking & eating a little more to see if that increases your supply.

If not, I used fennel tea (lots of honey, that stuff is groooosss..) which I felt increased my supply.

My milk drastically dropped when DD was a little over a year old. I used Fenugreek and ate a lot of oatmeal which helped. I was able to EBF her till 18 months.

DS is 10 months and I have had to cut down to nursing him twice a day because my supply has gone down. I think it started when we began supplementing with formula when he was 7 months. I agree it may be dehydration from the stomach virus- those things can be brutal!

Try More Milk Plus pills - every time my supply dipped a little I would take them for a few days and my supply would come back up.

My supply dropped a lot when ds hit about 10m old, but the following helped me to hold on a bit longer: drinking more water, eating a bit more each day, Fenugreek & Mother's Milk tea. Unfortunately it was a constant battle from that point on, but I was able to continue nursing him until he was a year old. Good luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Lots of oatmeal and lots of water helped when I started to feel a decrease. And I know it's a myth (right?) but a Guiness here and there didn't hurt either! My Dublin-raised FIL told me that trick! lol.

It's actually not a myth. Brewers yeast which is found in beer does help your milk supply. I made oatmeal cookies with brewers yeast to help up my supply when it was down. You can find brewers yeast at GNC or any other vitamin type shop. It smells like beer too!

Here is a recipe for lactation cookies

More Milk Plus (max out the caplets each day), and tons and tons of oatmeal.

Keep nursing her too. Even now, the skin to skin contact will help!

Any chance you could be pregnant? Just a whim but I hear that can make your supply suddenly drop . . .

Re: For the long-time (>8 month) boobie-feeders...

Thanks, all! I'm pretty sure I'm not preggo (but I guess never say never), but... I pumped today & got almost 2 oz altogether!!! Soooo happy. Maybe I was still dehydrated a little. We'll see what the next few days bring... If supply drops or doesn't increase a lil more, I'll try some of your ideas.

Thanks so much, ladies!!!
