We've been using fluoride free for a while but now that she's over 2, I"m not really sure if I'm supposed to continue or if I'm supposed to get toothpaste with fluoride in it. Who knew toothpaste could be so confusing Chat Icon?

Thanks!!

If she can understand that she's not supposed to swallow the toothpaste, then I would say get the regular toothpaste. If not, I'd stick with fluoride free for a little while longer.

Emerson is 3 1/2 but I still use the fluoride free with her because she still likes to swallow the toothpaste sometimes. We're starting to teach her she has to spit it out, once she gets it I'll make the switch. Chat Icon

Thank you. I think I'll stick to the fluoride free then since she still isn't quite understanding the spitting it out part, lol.

Generally, I think most dentists say that given the small amount of flouride they might swallow, it's still better to use toothpaste with flouride than one without. The chance of them swallowing so much that it would be harmful is slim.

I have read that at 2 you should be using fluoride whether they can spit or not. We only use a pea-sized or smaller bit.
