Don't know, but my DH averages 52 mpg with his Prius and sometimes does better than that. He loves the car. It sips gas.

i don't know about the current ones but i had a lexus hybrid suv - also similar tothe hybrid toyota highlander
it got slightly better gas mileage then the regular and actually had more power but not enough to offset the higher price

Hybrid SUVs are $$$. You have to take into consideration how much the car cost vs what you pay now if anything for your current car.
If your payment is going to be $200-300 a month higher than you pay now for your current car the gas price is not really going to be offset at least not until you pay off the Hybrid car.
Maybe look into getting a 4 cylinder SUV type car like the GMC terrain.
Just food for thought.

Re: How's the gas mileage in a Hybrid SUV?
We just got the Prius V and we love it. Fits our family of four with two in carseats and way more trunk space then my Jeep Liberty. Lots of leg room in the front and the back.
We are averaging mid 40s for gas milage and on the highway with cruise control on can get over 50mpg.
When we sat down and compared the numbers our car payment is higher than on some other cars we were looking at but we are paying so much less in gas that it balances out and if gas prices keep going up we're going to be saving money.
