Insatiable appetite in 6 mo old?

How much did does your 6 mo old eat? DS will be 6 mos at the end of the month and has (4) 7-7.5 oz bottles, approx 6 oz of solids, and 2 mum mums a day. He looks like he wants more all the time! He is about 50% in height, but 80% in weight, as of his 4 mo well baby visit. He is the biggest baby I know out of his Gymboree buddies and several friends babies who were born within a month of him. I love his heartiness, but fear childhood obesity. Am I nuts?

I think your son is adorable.
I can't offer much in the way of advice as our son's are exact opposites. If I did not wake DS every 3 hours, he would never eat. He only eats 4 ounce bottles and he dropped a bottle on his own, so he only gets 20 ounces a day. We were just told to start cereal, so I am going to try that this weekend. But I digress.
I think though that once he becomes more active, crawling, rolling, etc, it will balance out. He may not be hungry but is so happy at his new skill "eating" he just wants to eat all the time. So he may act like he is hungry, but really isn't. Does that make sense?

DD 5.5 months and eats about 5 times a day. I BF, but if she has a bottle it's 5.5-6oz. She also has cereal with her 2nd and 4th feeding. No other solids yet. She is much bigger than other babies her age, but she was born big and has actually dropped on the % charts to the 90th for both height and weight.

Are you nuts? Probably, but I am too so I think it's ok! I'm alway worried about DD being overweight. The ped. says she's fine, she's gaining a good amount of weight for her size, and it'll all even out when she's older. Try to not to worry, he's still just a chunker baby Chat Icon when he's older, you can control what he eats and help him develop good eating habits, for now, just pinch his cheeks and enjoy him.

I feel the same way sometimes. DS will be 6 mths in a week & he loves to eat. He actually gets frustrated if we don't feed him fast enough. My ped is not concerned at all about his weight. He's in the 90% for weight & 75% for height.
