Town of Brookhaven and FIOS
So, I heard from someone the other day that the reason why the town of Brookhaven doesn't have Verizon FIOS is because the town won't allow it, because they supposedly have a "deal" with Cablevision. Has anyone else heard this BS? Is this even allowed? This really annoyed me! I hope it's not true.

It would not surprise me, but that drives me nuts. I hate Cable, and we cannot get Satellite where we are. I would switch back to Fios in a heartbeat. If it is true we need to start writing some letters to some folks in Brookhaven,.......

YEP! When Fox was out I called up my rental office & asked if Fios is offered in my area, and she told me it's not offered for the whole entire town of Brookhaven b/c they have a "contract" with Cablevision. I don't know when this contract was signed, it could have been before Verizon ever laid any cable down.
But it's so frustrating. Crookhaven & The Dolans.....

It seems like Town of Smithtown too. We keep getting ads in the mail but then when we look it up it says not available.

My parents in Kings Park have Fios and I asked the tech one day why Brookhaven doesn't offer it. He said by 2013 we will have it also. I never heard that Brookhaven has a contract with Cable, however,nothing would surprise me!

yes i have heard this also.
we were TOTALLY fed up with Cablevision
so we recently switched to DirectTV
So far love it...... i can even program
shows from my phone

It's satellite you can get that anywhere.
I think the contract is that Brookhaven won't give permits to lay the lines down or something to that effect....

Coincidentally I have heard 2 sides to this story - both from Verizon actually..
1. 3 years ao when we moved into our new office in Islandia, we had Verizon come and do the install of the phones - I complained to the Customer Service person we were dealing with about getting FIOS in Town of Brookhaven (where I live)...he told me that the T of B wouldn't make the deal
2. Two days ago I had a tech from Verizon at my house b/c my DSL is not working properly (I have DirecTV) - and I mentioned it to him and he said now it's Verizon, not T of B...also Riverhead won't make the deal either.
My suggestion - write to both companies and complain.

Actually its been reported that Verizon is no longer building areas for video service (FIOS) because of the cost. They are instead focusing on their wireless business.

I know this is an old thread but holy crap this makes me mad! We just moved to TOB 4 months ago and I keep waiting for the day when Fios will be available. I guess I'll be waiting forever, huh?

The town you are in is irrelevant to the reception for the satellite dishes. They all point to the same satellite. Of course, there's a difference between Maine and Florida, but not different areas of LI. The main reception concern is trees. If you have a lot of trees in your yard, it may interfere. I have a 2 story house, so the trees aren't an issue for me. ILs were going to get DishNetwork, like I have, and BIL has, but the satellites were inconvenient based on the trees in their yard, so they went with DirectTV. You may have the exact opposite problem.
My DishNetwork reception is much better than Cablevision, based on everything I read on here. Every time there is a thread about people losing Cablevision signals, I'm still going strong.
I do use FiOS for my Internet, though, so I can't help you on that part.

Parts of Brookhaven has Fios now.. where I am it is not available but I have friends in other parts of Brookhaven that have it

That's excellent to know and i guess very common sense ha ha. I have a lot of trees but also a 2 story home, so that won't be an issue either.
