First time Moms in Nassau- who has picked their pediatrician?

Had an interview with one on Saturday. Have another interview with a different practice on the 25th.

Called one more recommended practice and their receptionist told me that the best that they could do was have a doc call me because with 6 doctors and one nurse practitioner in the practice they are entirely too busy to have interview appointment. So that answered that question for me. Won't be bothering with them.

Anyway- if you have picked your pediatrician, if you wouldn't mind sharing I would love to know who you picked and why you went with them...

I went with Dr. Grillo in Levittown. I didn't do an interview, a bunch of my friends use him for their children and had nothing but wonderful things to say. If I hadn't had someone who many people I knew and trusted recommended I would have done interviews but in my situation I didn't see the need.

Another one for Dr. Grillo, I love love love him!! He was my pediatrician when I was younger and I use him for my kids. When I first had my son I used Ashourzedeh, but I did not like him, nor his office, FM if you want more details, but I quickly changed to Grillo and he is awesome and his office is awesome!

I haven't picked but I've narrowed it down (gonna go see the drs & then decide). these are the ones I'm going to choose between....

1. Dr. Jetter (woman) in Baldwin Harbor.....
she's my 5 yr old niece's ped (&my niece's cousins' too-5 yrs & 1 yr) & I hear great things about her, not to mention my niece loves her. What i really like about her is that a few weeks ago my niece got sick all of a sudden & when my BIL called later in the evening the Dr stayed in the office to see my niece even thought the office was supposed to be closing in like 5 min.

OR

2. Dr. Lippmann (man) in Baldwin (on Merrick Rd).......
several friends have recommended him. They say he is friendly & a great doctor.

ETA: they both have Winthrop privileges, which is where I am delivering.... that was important to me

I am going to use Pro-Health Pediatrics in New Hyde Park. They don't do interviews they said because they get so many referrals, but my sister brings both my nieces there and loves them. A bunch of her friends go there too, so that was good enough for me- I am ok that I can't meet them before hand. Good luck.

We just decided to go with Dr. Rubin (and without sounding like some creepy stalker, i think I may have seen you at the dr meet and greet that day?!) in Mineola.

We liked her vibe, the location/hours were great, and she has a ton of education/community opportunities which seemed awesome to us since we have no clue what we are doing!

Did you go this past Saturday? If so, then yes, you saw me! I was the really short brunette with the super tall husband Chat Icon

I liked her vibe too, but DH would like to meet Dr. Roberto in New Hyde Park as he has come highly recommended.

I wasn't sure how I felt about Dr. Rubin's take on antibiotics. I mean, I know that to constantly have our children dosed up with meds is not the best thing, and dont get me wrong, thats not what I want, but....I also am not sure if I take my LO to her and she tells me to use some homeopathic remedy on him that I am going to be all too happy.

I am undecided.

I think I may need more a of a standard, traditional doc. Not sure though. I am sure that she didn't win best pediatrician on long island for no reason!

Will see once I meet at least one other.

we went with dr. elissa rubin at happy and healthy pediatrics. toured the office and met her in person and she is SO awesome. didn't quite like her partner but her partner mainly focuses on teens. highly recommend dr. rubin and she's such a huge supporter of bf'ing if you plan to bf too! Yes, we met Dr. Rubin on Saturday. I thought I was all for her, and then DH and I talked about and there were some cons as well as pros. so I am still unsure Chat Icon

Although I did love the fact that she is a lactation consultant!

Ha! Totally was you - My husband and I were the ones asking about twins !

My only concern with her was the antibiotics thing as well as I'm pretty neurotic as a whole. But I was comforted by talking to other patients there. Also if it is something like an ear infection she's not gonna be prescribing eye of newt or just tea with honey, which made me feel more ok with it.

Good luck!

nod i understand where you're coming from. dh and i lean towards the natural homeopath kind of stuff and we liked dr. rubin for that. but we also liked how if the situation were to warrant more immediate measures, she'd prescribe something. definitely a personal choice and you gotta pick someone that you feel comfortable with! So sorry to crash...my DS goes to Dr. Rubin and she's not so against antibiotics as you may think. Feel free to FM me with ANY questions! Her partner comes across a little "cool" when you first meet her, but she is great with the infants too.

Sorry again for crashing, but wanted to make sure that you had all the information you need to make the best decision for your LO. Chat Icon

I'm going to be choosing east rockaway pediatrics. I went to them as a kid and so did my sister. They were always a great office and I will be taking my baby there.

My brother and SIL use them. They are actually the practice I was referring to in my original post about being too busy to have a meet/greet type of appointment. Thats why I wasnt even going to consider them.

If you wouldnt mind...can you tell me why you love them? Do you generally see the same doctor all the time even though they have 6 in the practice?

Re: First time Moms in Nassau- who has picked their pediatrician?

Great question since I am curious too. We take DS to pro health pediatrics in lake success. I really don't care for the two Dr's that I've been seeing for the past 2 years. I've considered leaving the practice because of them & looking into Park Pedi's for when #2 is due this summer but DH recently took DS for his 2 year apt with a 3rd Dr from prohealth that he said he liked so I'm still on the fence on what to do.

Re: First time Moms in Nassau- who has picked their pediatrician?

DR RUBIN!!!
As a ped dietitian I have met a lot of the MD's and I have to say she is amazing!!! Voted top ped. in long island.

My 2 kids were very sick around xmas and as she said "You know I am not a fan of antibiotics, but they both need it". I left another good practice to drive 40 min to her..and I don't regret it for a second.

After my kids were sick, she called to check on them twice...no one has ever done that for my kids before..she really does truly care about her patients.

Anyway...

Other good ones in the area are:

Dr. Cadet - Carle Place
Dr. Jassey - Bellmore
Dr Lanzilotta - Bellmore
