I like going to new areas and exploring on my own. I hate all-inclusives because for me, a big part of what I like about travel is exploring and trying new restaurants, etc!
This! The more exotic the local the better!
this. we just go anywhere! never did an all inclusive, seems too restrictive for our style. we love just trekking (literally) anywhere...via kayak, on foot, bike, rental car, bus, train, or snorkel fin

Since i don't work...I get 50 weeks of vacation.
The remaining 2 weeks of the year are dh's vacation time.
He hates disney.
He hates all inclusives.
Won't cruise with kids.
So, we get a cabin every year. Hike, bike, grill, and kayak with him. Kids love it.

Other.
We pick a place and go there. We don't like AI because we like going out to eat and tasting the local food.
A typical vacation is sleeping in a bit late a museum or sightseeing in the day and a nice lunch and dinner.
We did a cruise once and that was nice, but we won't do that all the time. Maybe once every 5 years or something.
We also like biking holidays- we hop on a bike and go from city to city or village to village and find a B and B to stay in.
About half our holiday time is spent visiting family in NY and Australia.
