Anyone ever try to get a lower price on their cable bill?

I know threatening to leave the company they will work out a better package with you but how far can you go? Whats the lowest you've been able to haggle for?

Im paying $154 for triple play package and I just got it down to $136 but I wonder if I could have done better..

I do live upstate, which for some reason cable is cheaper here. I guess my question is, the discount of $24 dollars they gave me...is that the lowest I could have taken them?

Ok, obviously people are reading my question incorrectly. I understand that I pay a whole lot less than what you guys pay. I live upstate, you guys live in LI obviously you will pay more. My question is, if my bill was normally $156 and I managed to get it down to $125 is that normal when it comes to bargaining or would they have gone lower. So, is a $25 saving typical? Or did they stop there because I accepted the offer?

You did better than I did when I told Cablevision I was not happy with my service the customer service representative told me I could cancel my service if I was unhappy.

Instead of giving an attitude when two people are paying a lot more and you've negotiated a cheaper rate, save the $25 or call back and renegotiate. Why would we know if that's good when you live upstate where it's cheaper?

OMG..now I know why people are hesitant to post questions on this board. I am not trying to give an attitude to anyone. It just seems like everyone is saying stop complaining because we pay more. I understand that prices are different in every location but this is not my question. My question is, again, if $25 savings is a typical savings or if I would of keep haggling could they have dropped it more...that is all. Im just asking for people's experiences not asking what they currently are paying and that I should stop complaining.

Re: Anyone ever try to get a lower price on their cable bill?

I live on LI. I have Cablevision.

I called probably about a year ago and asked to remove all the premium channels as well as my phone since we never use it. At that time I remember my bill being around $160-ish a month.

They kept the phone on (because it would've been same price w/o it), took off the extra channels and I've been paying around $118 a month. I just checked my bill and it looks like it went up to $140 a month.

Not really sure what the difference is unless this has to do with the new year or maybe they are charging for the boxes now (I think last I heard you got like a year free).

I'm going to call and ask though.

Everytime I've called there, even when we had some problems with our boxes in the past, the salespeople have always been very nice and helpful.

I was in no way being mean, it just seemed you became frustrated with the given responses. I'm sorry if you felt I was mean.

Yea, my bill fluctuated a lot these past couple of months, that was really the reason why I called. Once month it was $135, the next $145 then back to $135 then most recently $156. It was getting pretty ridiculous.

Yes I have time warner and it seems like every month somethings going up. I called when my roadrunner went from 39 to 50, I said cancel it the rep said why I said (lying) because Verizon offered me internet only for 29 a month, then he said well we can keep it at 39 if that will keep you, so I said hmmmm ok i guess LOL...You have to haggle them because they raise it and keep it because ppl arent complaining enough and just sucking up these costs.

NO they were definitely not willing to work with me. The worst part is where I live I do not have many other options.

Re: Anyone ever try to get a lower price on their cable bill?

Not sure what package you have but my dh just haggled us to the same price. We have the triple play with the family cable, 2 cable boxes one of which is dvr and they gave us stars/encore free for a year (including the on demand). I was paying 165 without star and dh got it down to 132 with the added channels. Did they lock in the price?

Basically he calls and tells them we can get Direct tv or Dish Network for so much and they match the price and add incentives to keep us. He did it 2 years ago and they brought us back to the triple play price and added free dvr. that was locked in for 2 years. This time it's one year. When the time is up he will either haggle again or we will switch to a cheaper option.

I had to actually cancel Cablevision, before they gave me a better discount. I went from 134 for triple play, to 79 for triple play, with free DVR, and Free optimum boost for 1 year. That ended, I went back to FIOS, and have no intentions of going back to Cablevision unless they match the price they gave me last time. But I love FIOS too much now, so it would take alot to get me go back to Cablevision. I pay 110 now for Fios triple play, includes 1 HD DVR, 2 set top boxes , and 25/25 internet..

Re: Anyone ever try to get a lower price on their cable bill?

I'm in NC and had TimeWarner. Every year, the prices went up....and not by 5 bucks either! So, every year, I called and told them I thought the bill was too high, is there anything you can do, etc. They typically lowered it $20-25 for one year. However, this year, they only were willing to reduce it $9 (and this is after a $40 hike!!). They wouldn't budge. So, I canceled and now happily have DirectTV Chat Icon

Also, my husband works for the state and they pay our internet -- so we only have phone and digital cable (includingin HBO and DVR service). They wanted to charge me $175. Umm.....no......

and once the DirectTV pulls this crap (I imagine they will, too), I think I will go ahead and cancel everything and just use Netflix and stream it off our Playstation. They have alot of shows on there that we watch....and I LOOOOVE all the documentaries....

My Dad called to actually complain about a legit situation and they discounted him and gave him every movie channel for free.

It's the same package I have and I pay $186. This post makes me want to call and complain to get a discount!

Re: Anyone ever try to get a lower price on their cable bill?

We pay $99 per month for the tripple play with Cablevision. We have the family cable tv with 2 receivers, one with DVR. When we signed with them they promised us an 8G itouch and a $50 gift card. We recieved the itouch within a week but still have not receive the gift card. DH is mad at them. We are looking to switch again. We recently picked up the RoKu box. We plan on getting a antenna so we can just get the broadcast channel. Everything else can be streamed from Netflix. After the initial cost of the Roku and antenna we will be looking at just $7/ month with netflix.
