if you knew someone was a registered sex offender....
would you feel comfortable leaving them with your kids?( not soley alone though)
now....there are vast differences in reasons for registering....from indecent exposure....possesion of underage pornography...all the way to rape etc.
would your decision be based on the classification of offense or would it not matter what type of offense to you? is any type of offense okay'ish or no?
thoughts tia!

Absolutely no way! I don't care what the infraction was, they were put on a registry for a reason.

For any of the reasons listed above. No Way! If it was a 19 yr old guy who had sex with his 16 yr old girlfriend. I don't think I would have a problem with it.
Edited to fix "19" yr old guy.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. JMO. There is a reason they are on there registered. I wouldn't risk it!
ETA: I wouldn't want my child to be the reason for their repeated offending.

I think this would be the only reason I would be ok with. DH was 20 and I was 15 when we started dating so for 3 years he could have gotten in trouble for being with me. And he is a great person. That's why I say this. Anything else, no way.

Agreed...I also have an acquaintance that had to register for being arrested for public urination at age 21. Considered indecent exposure in some states. He is not a sex offender IMO...just a drunk man peeing in an alley at 2am.

yes the public urinaton thing and statutory rape (consensual) are the things that came to my mind as being the only exceptions I would make.

Re: if you knew someone was a registered sex offender....
My first thought was that I'd be bat sh1t crazy to consider it.
On further thought, I'd need to know the circumstances before allowing it. By needing to know the circumstances, that means I'd be looking up the actual circumstances of the conviction. I wouldn't take someone at their word - even a friend.
I know someone who used to leave their child with her ILs. Her ILs who molested their own children (her DH & his siblings).

I didn't know public urination would get you pinned as a "sex offender". That one wouldn't bother me as well. I can't imagine how many times I've peed outside.

Re: if you knew someone was a registered sex offender....
I would have to know the person and the circumstances VERY well. Even then, the answer would still likely be "no".
Here's an example of circumstances where I might make an exception-- you know the story of Ray Kelly's son, Greg Kelly. He was accused of rape and thus he may ultimately become a registered sex offender. Now, I think we can all agree that Greg Kelly is a pretty scummy guy if the rape story is true, but let's say he was my BIL and offered to watch my kids. Would I think he's going to molest my children? No. I would let him watch them.

Re: if you knew someone was a registered sex offender....
Without knowing all the circumstances behind why this individual was on the registry - no, I would not allow that person near my child. However, there are several "kids" on the sex offender registry in Florida and other states for "sexting" to their boyfriend/girlfriend b/c it is considered distribution of pornography, and if I knew that the individual in question was "guilty" of being a teenager, it wouldn't bother me.

No never would consider it.
Sorry I have 2 sons and if they were 20 and bought home a 15 year old I would be so beyond livid unacceptable to me.

I agree with this. But, it would also depend on how long that 19 year old was dating the 16 year old. Actually no, in this case, a 19 year old shouldn't be dating a 16 year old. Maybe if they were dating for a couple of years...but then she would be 14 and him 17, and that's still wrong IMO. Maybe a 17 year old and 15 year old. Not sure.

I agree with how long they've been dating, known each other plays into it. It's the idea that someone who is an adult would be attracted to a prepubescent teen that would concern me.
Also I've read some offenders use the excuse of peeing in public to get out of charges.

Re: if you knew someone was a registered sex offender....
Like everyone else.. my gut response is no way.. HOWEVER If they are on the list due to having sex while young, stupid and in love but not intentionally malicious and perverted, then I'd probably be ok with it.
Just curious how one would ask such a personal question, though. Generally if you know a person well enough, long enough you'd probably have been around for that infraction and know the facts. If they came into your life later, I'm just unsure how that would come up. Plus how much would *I* believe if I asked such a question. "Oh it was just teenage love, but she was 16 and I 18" really? I mean how would I know he wasn't lying?

Re: if you knew someone was a registered sex offender....
In Louisiana, someone would be registered if a 19yo had intercourse with a 17yo... IMO, that's not a sexual deviant, and not a risk.
At 19 and 17, there's a good chance they are both in college....
