UPDATED: What do you think of this? Should I be P.O'd?
I went for Ped interviews in december, and I just got a statement from my insurance company explaining that the claim isnt paid for yet, because they need paperwork from the doctor's office explaining the "services rendered"
so I call up and tell them, this was just a pediatric interview, I'm expecting, and that there were no services other than we interviewed them...
so she said "well, they're billing it as an office visit...did they tell you that they bill for interviews?"
I said nooooooo, what does that mean?
she said, "well, we don't cover interviews...so i guess they're trying to get money so they billed it as an office visit, but we need a report of the visit, so they will have to send us something for us to cover the charge"
basically, she said that if they can't, and since they don't cover interviews, I will probably end up with a bill from the dr office!!!!!!!!!!!!! for $200!!!!
do you think that's BS? I can't even imagine paying $200 to interview a doctor, and now I'm worried that it won't be covered and we'll get a bill!! And this is the doctor we were going to go with, but now I feel like they were shady with billing for that...
and i've been trying to call but to ask them about it but keep getting a busy signal!!!
UPDATE: Just got off the phone w/their billing dept...they were very easy and cooperative...she said they basically "give it a shot" to submit a bill, but if they don't pay, they figure "oh well, the shot didn't work" and leave it be. she said that I would NOT be billed for it, and since they don't cover it, she will remove the claim...so that went how I hoped it would!!! I didn't feel like arguing!! LOL

this is absurd!!! Ive never heard of charging just to interview the dr. I would be majorly pissed off if i were you.

Yes I'd be possess and prob go to my second choice. Unless the billing people say, "whoops, weren't meant to be billed". My ped didn't bill us and I'd be taken back if he did.
And I'm usually pro billing for all services..

Yes, I would be beyond pi$$ed!!!!!!!
That is absolutely ridiculous to charge for an interview visit - let alone not even tell you that they charge for it in the first place.
Personally that would deter me from going with that doctor but that is just my opinion.
Keep calling the doctors office until you get an answer

well that's how I'm feeling right now, and yes I will keep calling!! LOL
I feel like the phone call will determine everything!

that is really ridiculous and I HATE when offices are shady like that.  They should've absolutely told you an interview would be charged as an office visit. ridiculous!!!!

I wouldn't pay the bill and I would choose a different dr. I'd also spread the word! Who gets 200 dollars to be interviewed that is crazy. That dr is all about money not patients.

I would definitely be PO'd and I don't think I'd want to use them after that. I can't even imagine a ped's office charging for an interview. Um, hello..aren't you trying to gain people's trust and business here!?

While I am glad that you don't have to pay, I personally would be so PO'd that this even happened, and that they would even try to bill my insurance, that I would not use them.

when I interviewed my Ped ~ they didn't even take my insurance information ~ just my regular info and we were never charged.

I never heard of that!! You have every right to be mad. I went on two interviews and had a phone interview before DS and never got billed.
I would not go with that office.

Same here. I've heard of practices not doing interviews but billing for them is insane!

the lady in billing said something along the lines of how the doctor was technically spending work time with a potential patient, so they "give it a shot" and see if it gets paid for...
DH seems to think it's perfectly acceptable, and that the most important part is that they aren't expecting us to pay for it...I don't know if I agree, but he always has a very business oriented disposition...

Ditto. You shouldve said "well we were gonna give you guys a shot but not anymore since youre shady as all hell!" seriously just TRYING to charge for an interview should be a red flag. This peds office is running it more like a business rather than a childrens medical office where they should be putting kids, not money, first.
