Med student who has never met a preg woman before?

I'm a midwife patient, and I agreed to participate in a program that links the mom-to-be with a 2nd or 3rd year med student so they're exposed to a midwifery pregnancy.

I met the med student yesterday at my appointment (32wks) -- she seemed like a shy, young woman and she said she didn't have a lot of exposure to anyone with kids in her family. Turns out I'm the first pregnant person she has ever met. She was over the moon that the midwife showed her (and I let her touch) my belly and feel the baby.

DH thinks it's great because she's obviously going to learn a lot from this experience, but I just feel weird about it, not sure why. I've never known anyone who has NEVER met a pregnant woman. Weird, no?

How can that even be possible?? Maybe she means she has never interacted closely with a pregnant woman before.

But even if that was the case for the average person, how can that be true for a 2nd year medical student?!?!

Well, you can be sure that she will never forget you for the rest of her life!!!


BTW I think that is an AWESOME program you're participating in.

Maybe she meant pregnant patient and was nervous and stumbled over her words. I can't imagine being in your 20s and never interacting with any pregnant woman, ever.

Either way she sounds very cute and eager to learn.
