My big, beautiful boy is HERE!!
Yesterday was the hardest, scariest, most magnificent day of my life. At just after 6pm, my SON, Justin Andrew, was born @ 9 lbs, 8 oz and 21 1/2 inches. He's so big and so tiny, but so cute and so perfect. I cant get back to sleep so I'll share our experience.
Our story: Came in for induction at 11 pm, 41 weeks along, and 1 cm dilated, bc they had him at 8 1/2 lbs and thought that was big (ha!). They first gave me cytotec and after 6 hours and zero progress they wanted to give me more. But my contractions were 1-2 mins apart so they couldn't give more. Instead, gave me a foley to try and open up my cervix w/o drugs. That sent contractions into hyper-drive & I was in more pain then I ever imagined possible for 3 1/2 hours, w "pitocin level contractions" 1 minute apart, sometimes 0 minutes. At 8:30 I was 2 cm & staff agreed the milder pain med would do nothing for me at that pain level, so they went right to the epidural, which felt like a miracle. They let me go for several more hours, then gave me pitocin @ 4 cm around 1 pm. At 5 pm w contractions where they should be, baby's heart rate started dipping, w no progress to my dilation. My Dr said in he was worried about the baby & it was time to do a c/s.
Surgery has been my #1 fear all my life, and while baby was obv my biggest concern, I became petrified. Body shaking & blood pressure way up, they prepped me. I went in & started to feel nauseous and dizzy. Told them I might vomit or pass out. DH came in & I told him I couldn't do it w tears down my face. They told us they'd started & I began passing out, DH trying to keep me awake. He told me later that one moment my eyes were rolling back...but when they announced, "He's here!" and we heard his little cries, my face lit up w eyes wide & an enormous smile. They showed him to us and it was amazing to see our little miracle.
We had him for a short while in recovery, but they took him away and we eventually came to our room. Finally at 10:30 pm they brought him in. Tried feeding & he latched right on, my big little champ. We asked that they take him for the night at around midnight since I'd slept 2 hours in 2 days, but we'll have him back after breakfast today (day after) & will keep him w us mostly until we leave.
Didn't happen the way I'd hoped, but holding and singing to my little sweet pea last night made it worth going through anything for. I can't believe how in love with him I am already. We are so very blessed.

Congratulations! It's scary to have a c-section without any notice, but in the end having your precious baby is worth it all!
