Anyone not send their 3 year old to pre-school?

DS will be 3 at the end of July. We're hoping to move from London to NY before September, but it's dependent on DH getting a job, so I don't know when and I don't know where we'll end up. I'm trying to do some research in the Forest Hills area, which is where we'll rent if DH gets a job in the city, but it seems sooooo competitive Chat Icon I doubt I'll be able to get him into any place befoe September. AT first I thought it's no big deal if he doesn't go to pre school when he's just 3, but I don't want him to miss out either.

Any thoughts? Chat Icon

I didn't.

Now, at almost 4, he just started.

He seems to love it and I'm sure waiting a year didn't do anything harmful, KWIM?

My DD is 3y3m and no, she is not in PreK. We *may* send her for 2 days in the fall but being a PreK-6th grade teacher paying to send her to PreK when I can give her the same "education" at home isn't high on my priority list. Guess we'll see. Chat Icon

My DS will be 4 in March and I'm not sending him to pre-school or nursery school until this Sept (he'll be 4.5) and even then he'll only go 2-3 days per week.

They only take a few kids each year, siblings get priority, there aren't that many programs, the programs are pretty intense ie 5 days a week 8 till 3, they're expensive, etc, etc Chat Icon I'm afraid! I'm very afraid!

Seriously, though, a few of the deadlines I've found just for applications are end of March, which we definitely won't make. I even asked at the church nursery school that's near my mom out in Suffolk (which my brother's girls go to), thinking that if it came down to it, I could just go out there two mornings a week if I needed to - but the teacher who runs it says she fills up really quickly, like Feb!

I always envisioned just signing him up for the local church program, but who knows where that will even be, and it doesn't seem to actually exist in the city system.

I didn't, DS turned 3 in November and he will be starting next September (3 going on 4). I honestly wouldn't worry too much, it's only usually a few hours a week (depending upon the school and how many days you want to do 2 or 3 day etc) there are other things you can explore for socialization if you cannot get him in.
