BTDT daycare moms & potty training

Sorry for all the questions in advance ...

Did daycare potty train for you or did they just tell you how to potty train at home? Or was it a mix of both?

Did you/daycare wait til your DC was ready or did you/daycare decide when to really get going with it?

DD is 2y4mo and has zero interest. Daycare said to tell them when we would like them to really start with potty training but do I decide that or should I wait til she's ready? And what age do I wait until?

I've been hearing to do pull-ups and also not to start with pull-ups, go straight to underwear. What did you do?

i told them when I thought he was ready and then we coordinated our efforts.

I told them when i would be starting at school, and I put him in underwear over that weekend prior to him starting. It took one full day for number one and three days for number 2.

I stopped the pull ups Sat morning because we had a long weekend that I could work on it and told daycare this morning. They are supportive and have a few other girls in a similar position. She's been partially potty trained for a few mths for number 1--meaning, she has been deciding when she wants to use pull ups and when she doesnt. She is showing that she is really ready, so I had been talking up no more pull ups when you're 2 for awhile. But, she was really seeming ready, so I stopped a week early. She knows what's going on...

Now, my older DD followed a similar pattern, and she did great. I PT her just before she started daycare--maybe a week before. She was having a few accidents before she started, but once she started, she never had an accident except at nap time. However, 6 mths later she did have a regression. She was even asking to go back to pull ups. I kept resisting, but the ped suggested I give in. So, the next time she asked, I said, ok, here's your pull up. And then she refused it, and had no more accidents.

I can tell you from what I'm experiencing w/ DD right now...the Pullups can really confuse the heck outta them.

I had to put my DD back in pullups to go back to daycare today, because she was having at least 1 accident a day. Her teacher told me that she didn't go on the potty at ALL today. I feel like that was a week and a half of hard work completely down the drain.

I think when this pack runs out, I'm going to put her in underwear and that's that.

I actually would've waited a little longer because I didn't think he was ready, but daycare took the lead. Both at daycare and at home, we encouraged the potty, but it was usually met with resistance. He would go to the potty at least once per day at daycare, but wouldn't do anything. Then, one day DS finally decided to use the potty at daycare. By day 3, he had peed on the potty 3 times. The following Monday, we went straight to underwear. We had some struggles at home for a while, but he did really well at daycare. He was fully potty trained at home and daycare about 1 month after first peeing on the potty (2 years 10 months). He was night trained a few weeks later.

I think pull-ups help them get used to going on the potty, and all that goes with it (pants up/down).

In my daycare they would take the kids who were trained/training to the bathroom and the ones who weren't stayed in the class to be changed. DS loves to be "picked" so it motivated him to get trained. They also got 1 sticker for trying and 2 stickers for going.

I think pull-ups takes longer but there aren't as many accidents (that require change of clothes) so it was worth it to me.

Once DS was staying dry most of the time, I got a timer and big boy underwear and the first day he was in underwear he didn't have any accidents. He was 1 month shy of 3 when he got his underwear. He was in pull-ups for about 3 months.

My son is young but just wondering what are "ready signs"?

We waited until DS showed signs of being ready at about 2 years 7 months. He was going to school 5 mornings / week and they are really "pro" potty training, lol. They would just let all the kids "try". THey would sit them on the bowl and see what happened.

I started hearing stories from him like "James peed on the potty at school", etc.

We pretty much went straight to underwear and did pullups when we were out somewhere where we really didn't want to deal with an accident (ie, the grocery store).

One long weekend I basically kept him completely pantless and we kept going to the potty. He LOVES Play Doh so we would give him one small container for #1 and 3 small containers for #2. Worked like a charm! That's pretty much it!

We still do diapers at night though. They aren't usually wet in the am, but sometimes they are. Not sure when people stop that?

Our preschool help to porry train my DD. They would ask her constantly if she wanted to go potty and were a big help in getting her potty trained.

I think i'm going to wait. She will sit on the potty (I usually do it before her bath), get up, wipe, flush, etc but won't actually pee or poop!!

Daycare said that's a start but whenever she tells me she has to go poo poo or pee I say - enthusiastically - let's go to the potty! But she says NO and runs the other way. Think that means she's not ready?

Right now we only have the seat that goes on the regular toilet, we don't have a separate small potty chair for her... should we get that?
