check car seat at airport when we first get there or at gate.

we are bringing our car seat to use on vacation but not on the plane. My DD is 2 1/2 and she is going to want to sit in a seat like her parents. i'm afraid to check it in when we first get there, worried it will get lost or ruined so i want to check it in at the gate but i don't know if i really want to lug it threw the airport. what has anyone else done. TIA.

i checked it with my bags as soon as i got to the airport. i don't know if they'll check it at the gate.

I checked the convertible seat with my luggage because I didn't feel like lugging it through. I put it in one of those red gate check bags and had no issues.

They will take the seat at the gate though if you do not plan on using it on the plane (I did this when DS was in the infant carrier in the Snap N Go).
