call me heartless, but that would be the last time I got her anything.

I completely agree. You have been more than generous with her and she has been nothing but ungrateful.

I think you're good heartedness is being taken advantage of, but it sounds like she isn't being taught any manners. I agree with some PP's by saying something next time, like "hey, you're welcome." If her mother has something to say about it, you could explain to her that this has happened repeatedly and while you are giving your hard earned gifts to her time after time, a thank you is not out of line.

I had my 20 month old walk to each and every person this weekend and say thank you and give a hug and kiss for the gifts he received. Manners are taught and she's old enough to learn a lesson.

This is not normal behavior for most 12 year olds I've known. I do believe she's gotten it into her head that her half sisters are there to buy her stuff. You are being overly generous and now she expects it. A simple thank you goes a LONG way.

I also agree that her visiting you shouldn't mean you take her out on shopping sprees. Not sure how she even got that in her head. I mean, I was raised to NEVER ever ask for anything. My mother would have slapped me silly if she ever heard me ask anyone to buy me anything, even a freaking soda at the store or something.

We do have one young person in my family that has been spoiled and EXPECTS gifts and all that. Is also very unappreciative. If it's not on his list, he doesn't even acknowledge the gift, will literally just leave it to the side and not bother with it. Well, we had enough and we decided this year not to buy anything for him. He was awful all year behavior wise and honestly didn't deserve a gift anyway. And he's 17. So we didn't feel bad. Sometimes they need to learn that gifts are NOT required. They are a courtesy from someone and you should ALWAYS be thankful. I make my 21 month old say thank you for goodness sake!

That is totally not normal behavior. My 2yo is taught to say thank you. I would blame it on her mother.

Personally it would make me sad that she was raised that way. I would still want to give her gifts and make a positive impact in her life.

Unacceptable... my 3 year old says thank you without hesitation when i give her a cup of juice, a 12 year should deffinitly say thank you for those great gifts.

My SD is 12. She is very blunt and I find it extremely irritating. She would definitely say that about the Uggs and the coat. I hope it is the age. She and her friends are so self-centered and it's all about them. However, my SD would definitely say thank you (but only after telling you every reason she doesn't like the giftChat Icon )

She's totally taking advantage of you.

If I were you, I would open up an account for her that she won't gain access to until she's much older, like 18 or 21 and put money in that every once in awhile. She doesnt even have to know it exists.

And I would explain to her why she's not getting gifts anymore - you are hurt by her ungratefulness. Maybe when she gets older she will realize what she's done.

Do you have a relationship with her mom? Can you talk to her about it?

From now on send her a $50 gift card to Target from you and your sister. Done. I know at 12 I knew better than this. I would also bring it up to her and her mother!

Re: Would this upset you or is this just normal 12 yr old behavior?

I think it is awful behavior. My two and four year old children know to say thank you when someone gives them a present and are grateful to receive things. I think it is a lack of parenting mixed with the self entitlement a 12 year old feels. If I were in your position I would sit down with your sister and talk to her. She most likely has not been taught what to say or how to act. I will say I would just give a gift receipt and let her exchange things that don't fit her. As for the behavior, sadly I have seen this in 25 year olds - it is totally due to poor parenting and people feeling self important/entitled. So incredibly sad.

I would definitely be more hurt than mad. I do not think that her mom is miss manners sitting there teaching her these things. But as her sisters, I think you girls should speak up to her. Obviously her mom isn't doing it, so I think you shoul dboth say something to her about her manners ans saying thank you when she receives a gift. It honestly sounds like she doesn't know any better.

I think you are being taken advantage of. I would not be buying luxury gifts anymore, and would stick with the basics.

It is typical 12 year old behavior if your parents never taught you manners.

This was my thought. My niece, at that age, didn't call or write a thank you, but never would she complain about the item to us!

Poor or not she sounds like an ungrateful spoiled beat. Sorry I know that's your sister but I wouldnt be shelling out my hard earned money on pricey gifts for her and I would let her know being that she seems to be lackluster and ungrateful that you will no longer be asking her what she wants rather if you send her anything it will be something you choose.

I would say something to her. I would tell her straight up that you will not be buying gifts for her if she doesn't say show appreciation and say thank you, it's basic manners. The conversation will probably help her in the future. She's not being reminded by her mom, someone might as well do it! I know my parents would have made me call back and say thank you properly!

I don't think she understands taking advantage of you, but she probably does see you as a rich relative just because of the gifts you can manage to give her. She doesn't understand the sacrifice you make to do something nice for her but she should probably be made aware of it.

I have a 12 yo DD and this would NEVER fly !! I dont care how much she doesn't like a gift she has been taught to smile and at least say thank you.

I would either buy something for less $$ next year, or when you see her go to the store and have her pick something for whatever $ amount you set..
