Asking the Godparents on Christmas?
We have decided on who we want the godparents to be...
My BIL Jay (my older sister's husband) and my younger sister Irene.
We don't often have them both together, so DH and I were thinking about asking them to be the godparents on Christmas. My due date is March 23rd.
First question ... is it "right" to ask them on Christmas, or should I do it at some other time?
Ask them in front of everyone, or pull them aside?
And should I get them little gifts to present to them when we ask them? Such as a Godparent picture frame with a sono picture in it? I saw #1 Godparent ornaments in the mall that you could get personalized...maybe something like that?
The one thing that makes me hesitate to ask them on Christmas is that we are not asking my brother to be the godfather. I don't know if he will be bothered by this or not, he is already my nieces godfather, and I feel like he has very little involvement in my daughter's life, and has shown little to no interest in my pregnancy. He never even wished me congratulations. So maybe it wouldn't be completely appropriate to ask with him being present, but I am also anxious to ask my BIL because I am excited to have him be the godfather! He is so great with my DD and he is like a brother to me!

Re: Asking the Godparents on Christmas?
We are asking DH's sister to be godmother on Christmas. DH was hesitant at first bc he felt that asking her on Christmas in front of the rest of the family would take away from it and he wanted to take them out to dinner to ask. I thought it would be a nice time to ask this way on the day it would always be a reminder. We even bought her an ornament. We decided to go up to her house on Christmas early before everyone else arrives to ask her.
I say if you can do this, do it this way but since you rarely see them you may not have a choice? Maybe give your brother a heads up so he's prepared?

Re: Asking the Godparents on Christmas?
I think that asking them on Christmas is absolutely lovely and I am sure they will be thrilled. While I understand the concern about your brother, he should understand that only one of each can be picked and its only right to have one from each side.
I love the sono in a frame idea. We did that when we asked each of ours on their bdays. One of their gifts was the sono in a frame with a little speech bubble saying "Will you be my Godmother/father?"
They loved it.

Re: Asking the Godparents on Christmas?
funny you post this because yesterday as we're putting the tree up, i say to my hubby: so i was thinking of asking so and so on christmas to be Godparents... he's like WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY? before the baby was born? I dont know i guess its some superstitious thing he has going on. so he's making me wait till DC is here :)
we waited till DD was born to ask as well.

I personally wouldn't ask them in front of other people. You just don't know if others are going to react strange and I just think it is a personal conversation.
I am not asking anyone until after the baby is born but that is a personal decision and I don;t think one is right or wrong.
