So these are NOT good to have?? What is everyone else using instead?? I recently was given one as a gift and would like to return it now but what should I get in place of that????

Depends who you ask. There is a lot of debate on this. We used one with no problem with DS#1 before I knew about the safety issues so now with #2 I am going with the shower cap style.
Here is a thread on parenting that discusses the whole issue so that you can make your own decision.

I got this one that just goes over the carseat. This one seems to be ok because it doesn't interfere with the restraints inside the car seat.

Any of the shower cap style carseat covers are fine (like the one posted above in the picture or the above mentioned Posh Pouch). There are a lot of others on Amazon as well.
The shower cap style covers go over the top of the carseat. They dont' interfere with straps etc. like the bundle me.
That said, you can very safely use the bundle me on a STROLLER. I have the toddler size bundle me on DS' city mini which is great when we're walking outside in the freezing weather. Just not safe to use in a carseat.
