What lab did you take your child for bloodwork? Please recommend...

My ped gave me a script for bloodwork for DS but I keep putting it off b/c I'm afraid of the nightmare it will be to try and get blood from himChat Icon I know I'm going to seem like a wussy but I cant even imagine having to hold him down so that they can draw blood Chat Icon
I'm also afraid of taking him to a lab where they are not experienced with children. Any recs for a good lab? TIA Chat Icon Chat Icon

What area are you in?

I know that many people in the area have recommended the place in Bethpage that is in the Singleton's shopping center....they have said that they were really good, gentle, and experience with the kids.

I took my daughter to Lab Corp in Levittown and was not happy with the experience. Chat Icon

Everyone i know swears by the lab at Good Sam.
They have pediatric experts.

My insurance doesn't cover it unfortuneatly and I can't fathom bringing her to Quest. I hate that place for myself- much less my baby!

I'm not sure where you are located, but, I take my DC to Lab Corp in Commack.

I make the appointment online and in the "comments" area I make sure I let them know I'm bringing in a young child.

So far, we've had a good experience with them.

Oh I totally hear you.....I had a bad experience last weekend. I posted about this yesterday. I felt sooo bad for my DD..I had to strap her down and she was kicking and screaming. I just wanted to get it over with but the nurse couldn't get any blood out of her. So I have to go back....but I don't want too...I don't want to put her through that again! Chat Icon

I hope you have a better experience!

Upstairs from our peds office there is a lab. They suggested we go there because they deal with a lot of children. We haven't brought DD#2 for her bloodwork yet but we took DD#1 there and they were very quick and they talked her through the whole thing.

I've had good luck at Sunrise Medical in Babylon. Through the years it's been hit or miss depending on who's in, but there's one tech that has always been awesome with both me & ds...I'm pretty sure that her name is Mary. If you decide to try them I'd just call ahead to ask for the tech that's been there for years (they usually have 2 on staff & the other one is fairly new & I find her to be less gentle/have less of a bedside manner). Good luck Chat Icon

You are close to Good Sam then...if your insuarnce covers them- definitely go there.
I heard nothing but good about them.

I love the lab at Good Sam! DD was there every day for the first 3 weeks of her life due to severe jaundice issues, and her 1 yr blood work was a breeze!

As I told ShaunsMommy on FB -- I took my 6 month old DD to Good Sam this morning for bloodwork. Their staff is simply amazing at blood drawing and my DD did not even CRY. She just looked surprised and whimpered for less than a second and then was fine as they pulled the blood. They really know how to find a vein and get it on the first try on little ones without getting them upset.
