Is it customary to tip housekeeping?

We have been at an extended stay hotel for a few weeks. The housekeeping staff is nice, but they really do the bare minimum here - new towels and empty garbages Monday through Friday, and a "big" clean once a week, which is just wiping down the bathrooms, changing linens, and vacuuming.

Would you tip? If so, how much?

I would absolutely give them a tip. I am not sure how much I would give, but my normal tip is $4 per day at a regular hotel.

So they're not vacuuming, making the bed, etc.? If they're only in your room for 2 minutes a day, I don't think you need to tip more than a dollar or two a day.

At a regular hotel where they spend a good 10 or 15 minutes cleaning the room I'd tip a little more. But this sounds like a much different situation.

I'd probably leave a $10 tip for the week and consider it even stevens.

Re: Is it customary to tip housekeeping?

since they only give new towels and empty garbage mon-fri i would give $1 or $2 per day for that, and then $5 for the big cleaning... so like $10 a week?
