Which kind of sudafed is OK to take while PG?
I have a list of medicines OK to take from my OB and it lists 'sudafed.' I have an awful, awful cold, so I go to the store, and there are like 20 kinds. I asked the pharmacist who said I shouldn't take any , then called my OB nurse who said "regular" sudafed, and of course none say regular!!!!! Any clue on which one is OK? Can I take the one that they scan your license for now, or just the less strong one that is available on the shelf?

regular is the tiny red pills you take two at a time and all it says is decongestant with psuedoephedrine. i think its behind the counter.

I think just the regular red pill, nothing extra in it. When i asked my pharmacist, he showed me which ones. Is there another pharmacist you can ask?
ETA: i had to show my license for it to buy it because they track it. So if you're buying it and they don't ask for that... you're getting the wrong kind.

Thanks, the pharmacist said definitely NOT that one because it's too strong! She directly me to a generic one that you didn't need to show a license to buy, but it doesn't work at all! I NEED to sleep--I've been sick a week now!

Re: Which kind of sudafed is OK to take while PG?
Sudafed is pregnancy category C.
Pregnancy category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
My Ob suggested Benadryl. It's category B.
Pregnancy category B: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
I've been sick for 4 weeks. Best thing is tea & rest.

The regular kind. I dont remember if i needed to show ID. My ob said to take claritin and only use sudafed if absolutely necessary. You can use a neti pot for sinus. Its kida gross but very effective.
