Problem with baby girl rubbing hair at night...
Kylie rubs her hair at night (comfort) and its never been a problem until 3 days ago. For the past 3 days she's woken up with her hair so frizzy and knotted and this morning even some fell out. I need to put a stop to this... how? She is 15 months. She already sleeps with a lovey and blanket.

Re: Problem with baby girl rubbing hair at night...
DS's preschool director just had a discussion group where this topic was addressed. She explained that you shouldn't try to stop the behavior because it is a comfort/release for the child and if you do try to stop it it could manifest in other ways such as masturbation etc. She said that if it gets to a point where the child has a huge bald spot, then the help of a therapist might be needed. One mother whose DD had this issue brought her to a therapist (it was at a really advanced stage) and the therapist suggested getting a doll that had the same hair color and texture as her DD's. The DD then began to stroke the hair of the doll instead of her own! HTH

I was going to suggest a doll as well. All 3 of my boys do it, but to my hair...I have no idea why, but it is a comfort to them.

Re: Problem with baby girl rubbing hair at night...
thanks, i will look for a doll with hair or something else... she has a lovey blankie thing she likes rubbing too, but when she goes to sleep one hand (thumb) goes in her mouth. The other hand starts off holding the first hand. Slowly moves up covering her eyes. Fingers makes their way into the hair. So I am thinking a doll wont work because of the position her hands go in with the thumbsucking. But I will try anything! The only other idea I had was to braid her hair but its still too short for that.
