Gerber's Organic Baby Food

They stared adding DHA in the form of tuna oil! So gross. And a bunch of other stuff too. I wish they would have just left well enough alone. Also, does anyone make a stage 1 string bean (organic preferred)? Only seem to be able to find stage 2.

I'm not surprised about the Gerber baby food. Gerber is owned by Nestle and they have some really questionable practices regarding their food and some other things they have done in the past. You should do some Google-ing, it's really nasty.

I haven't found any organic stage one string beans. Have you tried Sprout, they might have some? I know they sell Sprout at Walmart and there is an health food grocery store near me called Sherry's in Babylon Village, they have it there.

Its also level 2, but I honestly still don't know whats so different, other than level 1 is a little runnier, maybe add some water to it.

Tx. I will check out Sprout. Yes, it is Gerber, they JUST started this. The first batch I bought 2 weeks ago was just peas and water. Now they are doing this "smart nourish" and added the tuna oil and a few other things that I have no idea what they ever are. I was pizzed. I broke down and just bough the non-organic ones to hold me over until I can either find something better or just make my own.

As for the DHA, it is tuna based which makes me uncomfortable. There is allege based that they can use...why tuna??

Re: Gerber's Organic Baby Food

I make my own baby food...a few weeks ago, I forgot to pack baby food for the babysitter...and she gave DD Gerber Organic Butternut Squash & Harvest Apples with Mixed Grains.

I was really upset by this, because making DD's has been something I've wanted to do for a long time and at 6.5mos, she's only had food I've made.

I checked the ingredients of what she ate and I was appauled at what was in it.

Ingredients
ORGANIC BUTTERNUT SQUASH, WATER, ORGANIC APPLES, ORGANIC WHOLE GRAIN OAT FLOUR (CONTAINS WHEAT), ORGANIC WHOLE GRAIN BROWN RICE FLOUR, TUNA OIL (SOURCE OF DHA), CHOLINE BITARTRATE, GELATIN, ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), ALPHA TOCOPHERYL ACETATE (VITAMIN E)

I have checked some ingredients (You can do this on the Gerber website) and found that some baby foods are just the veggie and water....but others had a lot of additives...some just for COLOR!

Re: Gerber's Organic Baby Food

Unless it says 100% organic....not every ingreient in it needs to be organic.
Just stating "Organic" means it has to have at least 95% organic ingredients....that still leaves a lot of room for other stuff!

I'm not sure what's gross about tuna oil either? It's a great source of healthy DHA.
Unless it's an allergy issue?

Re: Gerber's Organic Baby Food

The added DHA was the lease of my concerns when I looked at the ingredients.
But, I don't understand why it is needs to be added in the first place.
I imagine it's a personal preference...
