Gift for a Bris?
Can you please give me advice on what I should bring to a Bris? It's tomorrow night (Wed.) at 6PM in Manhattan. There will be a party afterwards. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Gift for a Bris?
a typical gift is money in multiple of 18 (Chai means good luck). I wouldn't give less than $36. depends on your relationship with the parents how much you want to give. but it is customary to give in multiple of 18.

Thanks for the advice! These are very good friends of ours and I want to be generous. Wasn't sure what was appropriate.

I typically give whatever I would give as a baby gift, since many Jews do not have a baby shower before the baby is gone.

Re: Gift for a Bris?
In that case $36 is pretty low i tell everyone compare to what you would give to a baptism and make that number into a multiple of 18. so if you would normally give $100 for a baptism, give $108 for a Bris. sometimes people don't realize a Bris is just as important as a baptism.

Re: Gift for a Bris?
Did you give a shower present? What would you spend on a shower gift or a baptism gift? I would give something similar. And pp is correct, gifts in denominations of 18 are considered good gifts because the letters equal g-d/life. Sometimes people give 118 as a nice gift.

Money or a gift is appropriate. Your friends will be so happy to have you share the special occasion! There is no right or wrong.
