Would You Say This is "Normal" For an ALMOST Three Year Old To Be Able To Do?
My DD is 2 years 10 MOS(to be exact). Do you think it's "normal" or "advanced" for her to be able to play the old fashioned type memory game with about 24 squares and be able to match them rather quickly?
Just wondering...

I think it's advanced. I bought a melissa and doug match game for my son that is 5+ and he can do it pretty quickly at 3.5 and I think that's advanced! My son is very analytical. I am assuming your daughter is too.

Sash does this on the ipad-- she's so good it's scary. She's 2.5. I have no clue what's normal, but I of course think she's brilliant!

DD also picked it up so easily on the IPAD and now refuses to play on easy...
But to the OP, yes I think it is advanced. Im not sure if my DD could do it with the cards or solely on the IPAD. I think I might try with cards to see if she could.

Re: Would You Say This is "Normal" For an ALMOST Three Year Old To Be Able To Do?
haha AJ does the same thing!
She'll be three this month and yes, she's been doing it awhile.
Crazy isn't it? She has a method and everything. But she'll retain where cards are that she's seen before. I won't do repeats so its 24 cards with 12 sets of different images, but she'll nail it everytime. We have a phone app that plays memory game for her and times her. She can do up to 20 in about a minute. Freaky!

I did see a study on ABC news that showed kids doing amazingly well on an ipad- with memory, spelling, etc., but then it couldn't be replicated with flash cards, etc. Wasn't scientific though.

It was normal for my kids, especially #2. He's always been nutty about matching.

lol-i will say that it wasn't something my DD could do at that age and i can't imagine my DS who is just 2 being able to do that in a few months! your DD sounds like she is very sharp! that's great!

Interesting because I guessed the same so I went and got her a memory match game during Target's sale. She loves it and will ask for it. However, she does tire of it faster because its involves a less tidy set of cards. They nearly all become just a circle of cards all mixed and she's remembering the 'last known' spot of the card. Which I think is even more strange since now there's no straight order to the cards, just a grouping of cards to choose from.
Still she does it on both card and app. Prefers app tho. I prefer cards so i can have my phone back!
