For Moms Who Didn't Go Back To Work After Maternity Leave...
when did you give notice? I've been on disability for months with my pregnancy, but after the babies are born, I'll be expected to go back after 8 weeks. I don't plan on returning though. Does anyone know how it works in NYS? Right now I get full pay and a check from disability every week. I've read with some places that you have to go back to work for a certain amount of time or you would be responsible to pay back benefits you were paid while you were out. I'm not really sure how it works by me...I work for a big company. What did everyone else do, and what was your job's policy?

I didn't tell them I wasn't coming back until my maternity leave was up. *Technically* I should have had to reimburse the company for my benefits coverage while I was out, but they never asked me for it.

2 weeks before I was due to come back. I had no isssues whatsoever.

I had to write a letter informing my employer that I was taking leave for x number of weeks for maternity (paid) leave and that I wished to continue my leave as child care leave (unpaid) until x date. It wasn't a problem at all. The letter was sent a week after giving birth.

Two weeks before I was due to come back. I figured that they were still getting my two weeks notice that way.
