Perimenopause Anyone?

I am probably in the minority on this board, but I seem to be in it. AF has been coming for shorter times and more frequently lately, until this month. MIA. And no, I am not expecting a Chat Icon Chat Icon :) AF has run like clockwork my whole life, so these changes are notable for me.

So I thought I was too young, but I just read the average age range for perimenopause to start, and guess what? I'm right in it.

Can't say I will miss AF, but psychologically, I am so not ready for this!

It can start as early as 35, because I was 35. I remember listening to a tape on menopause, and was surprised to hear this!!! Mary

Is it peri menopause?

Re: Perimenopause Anyone?

Thank you for posting this because I think I have been since I was about 39 (I'm 43 now).

I feel like I'm PMS'ing all the time, I'm always bloated, my breasts always hurt, I'm hypoglycemic, I break out like a teenager, AF comes every month but not like clockwork anymore (sometimes 22 days, sometimes 30 etc), I'm moody, tired, I have the worst anxiety that I've ever had...basically 3 weeks out of the month I'm bloated and feel like crap and then I have one good week.

My doctor tested my hormones and said they are normal but I don't see how this could be because I feel like I'm on a hormonal rollercoaster. Then I saw the PA and she said that they can test your hormones one day and they can be fine but can fluctuate by the next day.

Anyway, I'm trying an endocrinologist next week and I'll see what he has to say.

Re: Perimenopause Anyone?

I have gone from Peri to full blown menopause...not fun. I had chem and radiation and they say that is what caused the early onset of menopause. I would love to have AF and all she brings !!

My butt got fat; a few wrinkles, and so on. All the things that menopause brings with it.

A blood test will tell you where you are on your hormone levels.

Re: Perimenopause Anyone?

The piece I read said 43-48 is the average age for perimenopause, I think it was Web MD. I am 44.

I'll ask for the hormone test in a couple months when I see my OBGYN. I can't say I have any alarming symptoms, other than very erratic periods. And fatigue, but I have lupus, a 3 year old with special needs, full time job, yada, yada, yada, so who would not be tired?

I do not want another child, we planned to stop with one. But even so, it's a little sad to realize this is the beginning of the end (though I also read this phase can take a few years).

I would easily be convinced that this is all from lupus but if your periods were very regular before then I guess it is more gynecological. I believe my mom went through menopuase very late and I have always assumed that I will, too but I'm 43 and I know that some of my friends are having some issues. Chat Icon

Re: Perimenopause Anyone?

Chat Icon (raising hand) me.
I'm 3 months shy of 45 and suspect that I have been having symptoms for a while now. I've always been irregular and BC helped that and helped control the cramps, but now my cycles have become erratic. That's what set of warning bells in my head.
My symptoms are :
fatigue
night sweats
irritibility
mood swings
loss of sex drive

I see the gyno later this month and will talk with her about it.
Part of me wants to be done with aunt flo, but the other part of me is worried about the after affects of menopause.

I'm with you! Can't say I'll miss AF, but you are right, new problems pop up.

Also, while I don't want to have more children, it does make me a little sad to know the shop is shutting down, KWIM? Not there yet, but this does seem like the beginning.

Well, I'll see what my doctor says next, and this reminds me I really should be taking a calcium supplement. I don't think I get enough in my diet.

I think this is what it upsetting me the most.
I never had children, I had some difficulty and since DH didn't want children, never really explored options.
