Anyone else's doc kind of hands-off with solids?

My doctor told me I could start with yellow veggies around 4 months (she's kind of anti-grain). I waited until 5 months. From there, I've basically used this site and wholesomebabyfoods.com as my guide in terms of what to introduce next and when. I started with oatmeal and rice recently—my doc never told me when I could, I just did it since most babies have this as a first food.

I just had DD's 6 month appt and she just asked if DD was eating solids. I said yes and that was the end of the conversation. Now we don't go back until 9 months. I forgot to ask her when to introduce yogurt and meats.

Anyone else kind of doing there own thing with solids? Should I call to ask about yogurt? I'm not looking to introduce it any time soon, but I'd think by 9 months she should be on it, right?

I really think your Dr. should be giving more info esp. since your a first time mom, you shouldnt have to pull teeth for her to give you info!! Are you happy w/her otherwise?

I gave yogurt (yo baby) at 6 months per my Dr. She LOVES it. If your worried about sugar you could get plain yogurt and add your own pureed fruit to it.

Meats I started at 8-9 months in small tiny peices, whatever kind of chicken we were having. She HATED pureed or canned meats.

I wouldn't say my ped is "hands-off" but she is very unaggressive with it all.. wanting us to wait until 6 months for ANY solids, and then 9 months for table food/dairy... but, like yours, she really doesn't give much guidance and is very big on letting DD guide us with how much she should eat, what she likes, etc.

My doctor is a bit more holistic than most (though she's a regular MD). I worked for 2 pediatricians when I was younger--and my mom is their office manager and they definitely do things a little different. But I really do like her demeanor and a lot of her other ideas.
I have a feeling she's not so concerned because she's very pro BFing and that should be DD's main source of nutrition right now and thinks of this as practice.

I'm guess I'll just follow my gut with what I think DD is ready for—with the help of wholesomebabyfood.com.

I think my doc is similar--except that she said we could start veggies sooner than 6 months. She's very pro-BFing, so I think she feels eating right now is really just practice.

i wouldn't say my ped's office is hands off, but they're not going to push the solid issue unless you are. If at 6 months they asked if you started solids and you said no, they would tell you to try solids and that there really is no yes to this and no to this first. just the whole 2 day rule for allergies.

yeah I think that's why my ped was so hesitant to have her start solids before 6months, I was still pumping then...

I always marvel at the hugggee differences in pediatricians and their guidance!

This is exactly like my ped. She told us to wait until 6 months for any solids and no puffs until at least 8 months. I'm just reading a lot of literature to make sure I'm not missing anything.

I think at this point you can try anything. We started yogurt at 6 mos - whole milk yogurt only though. Those YoBaby 3-in-1's are great b/c it has fruit and a veggie in it.
Honestly with solids I pretty much did my own thing - tried anything and everything whenever I felt like it and after the first few things I tried...I stopped waiting the 3 days to introduce anything new. DD had no bad reactions to anything so after a while I felt safe to just let her try whatever.
We talk a lot with our ped about foods and stuff at each well visit - but I have a friend with a baby same age and she said they barely even discuss it...which I found odd. Esp with 1st time moms you sort of have no clue what you are doing.
