more infant gas issues..
my 9w old has been SOOO gassy for the last 24 hours.. shes was a preemie so her corrected age is about 2w old.
she eats a combo of breast milk and formula. 90% of the time i nurse and then follow up with a formula bottle. once or twice a day (depending on my supply) the bottle is breast milk and not formula. she gets 3-4oz of bottle after the nursing.
heres what we've done so far:
-about 10 days ago switched from Similac Advanced to Enfamil Gentlease
-tried Gripe Water
-tried Mylecon which works a little
noticed over the last 3 days her poops are green and slimy like mud and more stinky. i dont think the Gentlease is doing anything for her. do i switch back to Similac Advanced (that's what she's gotten since the NICU) or do i try something new? Is it too soon to judge?
Ped didnt seem concerned about the gas. Baby is happy in between gas episodes. But many times she gets red and grunts and sometimes farts sometimes doesnt. i wouldnt be concerned except that it's been especially bad over the last 24 hours, where more than 60% of the time she's awake she's gripey and grunty and she hasn't slept well either. She wakes up squirmy and grunty. Then she gets upset and whales for like 10 seconds and then feels Ok again. It's so frustrating!!
Any suggestions?? I wish I could help her

Re: more infant gas issues..
i dont have any advice for you as i am in a similar situation. we are doing both breast milk and formula and my ped said the powder formula can give DS gas which is what i think is happening so i changed to similac sensitive for gas and fussiness. i give him gas releif drops but he still gets fussy and farty,
i drape him over my arm and pat and riub his back, that helps him a littlke and if anything it puts him to sleep for a while. hes 4 weeks

Re: more infant gas issues..
My twins were preemies born at 32weeks and I had the same issue with DS. He was strictly on BM until about 15 week old. I then had to switch to formula. He was just as gassy on the formula as the BM. He'd be up all night crying in pain, crunched his little body up, grunted and turned red and farted like it was noones business. First we had him on the target sensitive (comparable to the gentlease). We kept him on that for a while and he had no change. Mylicon worked a little so we gave it to him with most bottles. Gripe water did nothing. What kind of bottles are you using? We noticed a HUGE difference when we switched from the drop in bottles to Dr. Browns bottles. He was like a different baby. Still needed mylicon for a while but definitley not as much and he slept a lot better.I stayed on the sesitive formula up until about 6 months. Now he is on regular formula with DD. He was also a huge spitter upper too! Good luck!!
ETA: I would also put him on his stomach for nap when I could watch him closley. Helped him let out A LOT of gas.

i was going to try changing bottles next. i have playtex drop ins sample from the ped. my friends use dr. Browns and love them. ive only used the medela bottles and similac nipples since thats what we used in the NICU and she did great. maybe the nipples are worn out now or something cause something is def not working anymore . i wish i didnt have to give her any formula but my milk never fully came in due to an array of issues at delivery (see birth story for details).

Re: more infant gas issues..
We were using those similac nipples and had issues because they were too fast..that could be contributing to the gas issue. Also, if she is getting 90% bm, you might be eating something that bothers her tummy...we use the playtex ventaire bottles or avent bottles and went through this phase, too...mylicon helped...we never switched formulas from the advance...gl! Could she be a little colicky, too?

Re: more infant gas issues..
Ps they also get a LOT of air using those nipples...I didn't know until we had an LC over...
