Re: Delivering the Placenta

This is possibly the grossest thing I've read about on LIF, and I've read a LOT of gross threads.

I guess I was going to find out one way or the other.

I had TWO placentas for the price of one!

Sticky little suckers, had to have surgery to remove them! They would not come out on their own!

My OB had both feet firmly planted on the ground and was pulling with two hands (think tug of rope) and it didn't budge. If it had come out then, he would have slammed into the wall behind him! Chat Icon

OMG!!! I can't even imagine! Chat Icon

Re: Delivering the Placenta

Honestly it was nothing. No contractions. My doctor said he was going to push on my stomach to get the placenta out and that was it. I felt nothing. Chat Icon

Same thing here.

They pushed on my belly a TON and that really freaking hurt. They also put oxytocin in my IV to help with the delivery of the placenta. But I didn't feel anything as far as that goes except how annoying it was that they were pushing on my tummy so much. The nurses also came in every few hours for the next 12 hours after delivery and pushed on my tummy. PITA.

It was nothing compared to pushing the baby out. Really. I didn't look at it. DH did and said it looked like a giant bloody bodily organ. Yeah, I didn't need to see that.

Re: Delivering the Placenta

i had a csection so this doesnt really apply but when i was in recovery, i was talking to my doc who was filling out paperwork at the end of my bed and on the tray (like a food tray but used to lean on for paperwork) was what looked like a chinese food quart container and in it, my placenta. he asked if i wanted it opened so I could see it.

ill never order anything in "quart" size from a chinese place again Chat Icon

The Placenta came out less than five minutes after I delivered.

It seems you never find out any goory details until you're pregnant, THEN of course everyone tells you the truth of pregnancy lol. Up until I found out I was pregnant I still thought the stork would come to deliver my baby Chat Icon

umm, i'm with you... i had no idea about this placenta thing. i am horrified Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Delivering the Placenta

It's funny but I really don't remember!
I remember it coming out and seeing it and being like- ewww gross.
I remember the Dr putting it in some plastic bag or something. Chat Icon

But I don't remember pushing it out.
Or having any contractions.

At that point I was just so glad that baby was out and all the pain was gone that I could have had a puppy come out of my who ha and it wouldn't have phased me at that point! Chat Icon

This is exactly how it was for me...and GOOD question for first time Mom's - call me ignorant but I had NO idea that this even happens until it did.

Re: Delivering the Placenta

I wasn't having contractions and I didn't have to push. The doctor specifically said, "Now relax and let me do what I need to do to deliver the placenta."

IMO when it came out, it was a relief type of feeling...and they pushed on my stomach after to get 'everything else' out (blood and such).

I don't remember the pushing on my stomach hurting, it felt weird, but I don't remember it hurting.
