anyone have excema?

were you able to use anything to soothe the dry itchiness? i've typically been prescribed steroid ointments but am definitely not using them now... was wondering if there's anything OTC that i can use that's safe for baby too like aquaphor or eucerin...

Re: anyone have excema?

pre-pregnancy my prescription cream was betamethazone dipropionate which is a steroid cream, I believe.. my OB said I could continue to use it. I cut down my usage to only when I absolutely couldn't take the itch anymore. Probably used a small amount 3-5 times since January.

Nothing else over the counter works for me with the itching & rash I get on my fingers.

I'd see what you OB's opinion is, since they tend to differ.

_____________
ETA: Found this online about self care

Self Care for Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)

Patients with eczema have hyperirritable skin. Therefore, anything that dries or irritates the skin will be a problem.

The aims of home therapy are to decrease trigger factors, reduce itching, suppress inflammation, lubricate the skin, and alleviate anxiety.

Dermatologists generally recommend the following:

Avoid rough, scratchy, tight clothing and woolens

Avoid frequent use of soaps, hot water, and other cleansing procedures that tend to remove natural oil from the skin. Use a moisturizing soap such as Dove, Tone, Lever 2000, Eucerin, Aveeno, Basis, Alpha Keri, or Purpose, and recommended cleansers include Cetaphil and Aquanil.

Bathe no more than once daily

Washcloths and brushes should not be used while bathing

After bathing, the skin should be patted dry (not rubbed) and then immediately (before it dries completely) covered with a thin film of moisturizer cream or ointment (not lotion) e.g. Aquaphor, Eucerin, Vaseline).

Re: anyone have excema?

I was scared to use my steroid prescription drug so I have just used lotions throughout the pregnancy. Luckily, my hands never got bad but my legs have been really itchy throughout my pregnancy!
