Am I Normal?
I am not a regular poster, but I do a lot of lurking. I don't really have anyone to talk to and just need to vent I think, so thanks in advance for listening...
I am 18 wks pregnant. We had been trying for a while, but when we got our BFP, it still caught us off guard. I had no symptoms and was not really late. We kept it to ourselves and eventually told people, now pretty much everyone knows. Still now, I am not really having any symptoms. I have gained about 3 lbs so far and while some clothes are uncomfortable, I am still wearing all of my clothes. All of my friends had their babies a long time ago and they are now grown. So, my friends and I are just in a different place. When I talk to my mom about anything, her answer is "Didn't you buy a book?" Not really warm and fuzzy. DH and I live in a 1BR apt and just can not imagine where a baby is going to go, but we know that we will figure it out. My job is already asking me what my plans are once the baby comes. My answer was I don't know. People asked if I am shopping and picking out things and I am not. When I think about it, I get completely overwhelmed. I know take it one step at a time, but I don't even want to take the first step. I guess that what it boils down to is that I am just not excited. It still seems very foreign to me that I am pregnant. Like if my DH did not remind me, I would forget. Will this change? As time ticks on, will I get more excited? Is this feeling normal?
Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Am I Normal?
Yes it's normal. I think we, as a society, put a lot of pressure on women to start families, plan for the baby, and be the perfect wife and mother. I's very overwhelming, and to not have somebody to talk to is even worse. My suggestin is to make a list of big things you need, and then smaller things. Work on what you have to have when baby comes home and then little by little work on the smaller things. I don't know how you feel about gender, but, for me, knowing my daughters gender REALLY helped me bond with her. I had a horrible pregnancy and knowing that there was a real little person in there not some moving blob helped me keep it in perspective. I wore all my prepregnancy tops throughout my pg. As it goes on it will feel more real, but I always felt a bit disconnected and still do with #2. I see the baby on the u/s and I feel it moving, but I can't quite make the connection that THAT is in my belly I wish I had a mirror in my tummy to see the baby there. As far as having a 1 bedroom lots of the women on here have that situation and can give lots of pointers! We're here and PLEASE FM me if you want/need to talk

Re: Am I Normal?
Disconnected. That is exactly the word I was looking for. We are having u/s on July 21st, should be finding out what the baby is then. I have tried not to associate it as a boy or girl, because I don't want to get attached thinking it is one and it turns out to be the other. But yeah, we are def going to find out. I personally hate surprises. Anyway, thank you for answering. I was beginning to think I was the only person in the world that felt this way.
