My pharmacy will always fill a script generic unless otherwise instructed on the prescription ... and personally I prefer it that way, it's much less $$ for me.
My old prenatals that didn't have a generic option were $70 for 1 month.
I now pay $5 for 1 month of a generic version of something else.

Yes. On each occasion I had to get prenatals (I went through 3 kinds) CVS had to order them. They also filled them as generic which was way less money so I was fine with it.

Re: back from pharmacy...has this happened to you?
hmm... i was just worried because have been doing some research on generic prenatals and found an article that made me wonder about generic prenatals:
Here's the link and the article:
The issue of generic prenatal vitamins is a confusing one. Generic prenatal vitamins present an interesting technical problem. Because prenatal vitamins do not require FDA approval, they are not given "equivalence ratings" by the FDA. Equivalence ratings are used by pharmacists to determine which generic products are considered equivalent to brand-name products. In many states, a pharmacist may not dispense a generic in place of a brand-name medication unless the FDA has rated the products to be equivalent. Because prenatal vitamins do not have equivalence ratings, technically, no generic prenatal vitamin is equivalent to any brand-name prenatal vitamin (including Prenate DHA). However, depending on state laws (and how your healthcare provider writes your prescription), your pharmacist may substitute a generic prenatal vitamin that is similar to the brand-name product. At this time, there are a few other prenatal vitamins (both generic and brand-name) that are similar to Prenate DHA. LINK

If you would prefer the brand name, let your doctor know, so that he can fill in the box "DAW" (dispense as written)

I think this argument can be made for just about any generic drug. Same holds true for birth control. I had to switch to a generic after several months and although it was the generic for the pill I was on, it took me a while to adjust. My doctor told me that generics don't have to be exactly the same as their name brand counterparts, they just have to have a percentage of what the name brand contains (hope that makes sense).
Having said that, I've taken generic pre-natals and have been fine so far. Like pp said, just ask your doc to write "DAW" and the pharmacist will fill your script as written.

Yes. The generic version is fine to take and cheaper. :)

your insurance company will not pay for a brand name if it comes in a generic unless your doctor sends a letter stating why he wants you to take the brand name vs the generic.
Once approved you could get them.
Since that is so much work, why not just ask for your Dr to put you on something that is not in a generic form if you feel so strongly about it? I am on my 2nd brand and neither of them are generic. if you want the brands let me know.
I actually wish mine came in generic is $75 every 3 months! and the other one was $70 every 3 months

I also got the generic.version of prenate. It's called Ronvin DHA. I's like $15 for 3 months, which is pretty much the cost of Target brand. can't beat that! Just note - there is no vitamin d in Ronvin and my doc tested my blood and found me vitamin D-deficient. you might want to take extra vitamin d supplements if this is your brand too.
