Growth sonogram?
I been reading a lot here that they can be way off - with DS my doctors were estimating very close to the actual weight - DS was born 8lbs 12oz at 41 weeks.
As per the doctor, this baby is close to 7 1/2 as of today 37w4d
Is there different ways to calculate growth - my girlfriend told me they measured her belly to determine baby's weight...
My doctor is doing a sonogram and measuring the baby's head, belly and leg....does that make a difference?

Re: Growth sonogram?
Never heard of measuing just from the mom's belly? My tech measures the same way as yours... head, stomach, etc.
The tech told me that it all depends on the baby's position as well. Of course when they're bigger it's harder b/c they're in a ball so it's not as accurate.

Thanks - I found what my friend said kind of odd....

Re: Growth sonogram?
When I was pg with DS, my doc told me that from the outside, it appeared that I was carrying a very big baby (10 lbs). But after a son and taking measurements of the baby's belly, head and legs, also he was certain that the baby would only be around 8 lbs and sure enough DS was born at 8 lbs 2 oz.
This time arouund, I'm carrying exactly the same (huge!) and I had a growth sono at 35 weeks and they estimated that the baby is 6 lbs (average)

Re: Growth sonogram?
I had a growth sono at 36 weeks and DS was measuring 6 1/2 pounds based on the measurements taken of his head, belly and leg/femur. They were estimating him to be around 8 pounds when I delivered. I had him at 38w6d and he was 6.8. They were way off. That was just my personal experience.

Re: Growth sonogram?
Since 32 weeks, they told me that was big, and the last sono I had at 40 weeks, they said 8lbs, 11oz... came at 41 weeks, 1 day and was only 7lbs 1 oz...they were WAY off, the Dr told me there can be a 15% error rate in either direction
