What questions do you ask when you meet with a ped for the first time?
I'm thinking of switching DD's dr. I have an appointment today with Dr. Halegoua and was just wondering what kinds of questions I should be asking. The dr. DD is going to now, I never met with before we started going and now I'm thinking that if Ii had met him before hand I prob wouldn't have gone with him.

Well, what don't you like about your current ped? Base your questions on that.
We asked:
How many docs in the practice?
What if I have a question after hours?
Are you affiliated with an LC? Or can I call a doc with BFing questions?
How many vaccines are given per visit?
What hospitals are you affiliated with?
Check out the parking situation and if there's a well child waiting room.

This may sound silly but ask if they write everything down for you! I love this about my Dr. My son was there on Saturday, turns out he has coxsackie, he wrote everything down, when to take Motrin/Tylenol and the dosage, he even wrote "warm bath", "ice pops", and to come back in 5 days if the fever is still there. I love that everything he says, he is writing down at the same time for me to take home. I'm one of those people that will forget as soon as I walk out of the office.

My DD's does this, too. I get a sheet every single visit with her height, weight, HC, whatever vacs she got and any other recommendations she made during the visit. It's definitely helpful.
I asked about after hours care (or when my particular doc is off), vaccines, typical wait time. Ask if they have a specific time for NBs/infant well visits. My doctor's office likes to do NBs at a specific time--when the office isn't bombarded with sick kids.

Definitely ask if they will do well visits on the weeked! I assumed this was the case with our ped since they're open 7 days a week and it turns out they only do well visits Monday-Friday!
