Vbacs...are they worth trying for?

I had a c section first time around but this time my Dr said we can try for a Vbac.....so now I am thinking about it.

I know it could just end in a c section again but I am not sure what to do (i do have lots of time to decide) so just looking for any past experiences anyone has had.

TIA

Re: Vbacs...are they worth trying for?

IMO, yes, definitely.

The recovery was easier - I was very very sore down there which made sitting hard, and I couldn't walk long distances. It was still 100x better than walking hunched over for a week Chat Icon

The experience itself (of pushing her out) was worth all the back labor and pain from the stitches I endured after that.

I had a textbook perfect c-section 18 months prior, and no issues with healing, so my OBs told me I was a great candidate for a VBAC - especially since I never went into labor with DS.

I also pushed to be able to go past my due date and delivered 8/9 days after my due date (it changed).

I tried for a Vbac and wound up with another csection. You can read my birth story for more ifo but I will say even after ALL the labor and pushing and then a C AGAIN with this DD, I am still happy I tried. I know I did eveything I could and do not regret trying.

If my doctor would have given me the OK to try for a VBAC I definitely would have. Unfortunately, my 2nd baby isn't in an ideal position and since my first was breeched, they won't allow me to try.

Good luck!!!

Re: Vbacs...are they worth trying for?

I agree with LB. I had a VBAC because DS #1 was in the breech position. My doctor was all for letting my try for a VBAC. I am so glad I did because I was in labor for 7-8 hours and DS #2 came out on the 4th push. It was, IMO, a much easier recovery. Like LB, I had some stitches as well but I found I was able to move easier and chase after my first child without an issue.

IMO, the question Are they worth trying for is one only you can answer.

I had 2 scheduled c/s. With my 2nd I never even considered a VBAC. It just wasnt something that was important to ME.

There are risks associated with both, so its a decision only you can make as to how you feel about NOT having a V-delivery.

Re: Vbacs...are they worth trying for?

I am trying for a VBAC. I weighed the statistics and researched it extensively. O am currently being monitored very closely (2x per week) so I am confident in my decision to at least be given the chance.

Only you and your doctor can decide what is right for you - every situation is different Chat Icon
