Scared you-know-whatless after watching "A Baby Story"...
I swear! I can't watch that show!
I mean, I know labor isn't going to TICKLE, and people do it every minute of every day, but when I hear people attempt at describing the pain unlike anything they've ever felt before, it freaks me out a bit!
I'm going with the ignorance is bliss angle and just telling myself that one day, I'll wake up and a stork will be flying away, winking back at us as we realize he left us a beautiful baby. And that will be that. lol
Are you freaking out or blocking it from your mind?

Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be....
But, I DID have an epidural Those things were magical. I labored for maybe 14 hours without one (and then 7 blissful hours with). The fortunate thing is labor pain starts out light and then INCREASES, so you can stop it before it gets to be too much.

I freak out too!!!! sometimes I just try to put it out of my mind and take the approach that the baby will come out and I will get through it, but other times I do start to freak, it doesn't help when BTDT mommies want to tell you all of their not so pleasant stories.

Re: Scared you-know-whatless after watching "A Baby Story"...
i tried not to think about labor with my first son. I did prepare and learn breathign techniques but i tried to block out the thought of how painful it would be
I actually labored easily and got to 10 cms with out an epidural but needed it to slow labor down because i was strep B positive. I ended up laughing between pushes or eating an ice pop - so it can be easy especiallywith an epi
also less than 2 years later i can't for the life of me rememeber what a contraction feels like

Honeslty, I'm more scared of drugs and needing a c-section.
I look at it this way: this is what my body was made to do, and women have been doing it for thousands of years.
Again, my fear is more of needing a c-section or the hospital being pushy with drugs.

Exactly this for me too. I am fearful of the hospital and being treated as though I am "sick". I believe women's bodies are powerful and built to do this, I see the act of birth as a sacred rite of passage for a woman and I fear that US hospital policies may taint this experience for me.

ITA Im taking a Bradley course with someone right now to get tips of ways around the way the US treats births in hospitals.
Next time around, I want to have a midwife and use a birthing center.

Um, yeah it was the most painful and bizarre experience of my life. I don't lie about it. But it's only for like 12 hours so you just get through it. I lived to tell the tale and now have dc2

I just keep hoping & praying for a quick, miracle, drug free birth. But I am also trying to prepare myself in case my fantasy doesn't come true & it's pure torture
