Question about meds during labor
So one of our TV Channels is airing "One Born Every Minute USA" and my friends and I have been a chatter about it tonight, and one of my friends, a student midwife wanted me to ask a question...so here goes.
Here in the UK we aren't as drugs oriented as your hospitals seem to be, one of the most common pain relievers that we use is Entonox, otherwise knows as Gas & Air, otherwise known as Laughing Gas!
I used it when I laboured with Noah, and it was amazing. I not only had an out of body experience, and apparently I was in a Prince video, I think it was Raspberry Beret.
Anyway, I digress. Is Gas & Air used in the states at all?

I've never heard of it but it sounds awesome. I don't remember the part of Raspberry Beret where a woman is giving birth.
Do they do epidurals there as frequently? I loved my epidural until I had to push.

Yes, they do epidurals, but the Entenox can carry you all the way through, we also do something called Pethedin, and I believe you can also get diamorphine.

There you go! Thanks! it is awesome...and its safe. And your partner can have a little toot of the gas while the midwife leaves the room.
