great PSA I have it in the diaper bag but not my bag and I had a mild heart attack the other day when he ate a peanut by itself and I had no benadryl on me b/c I hadn't brought his diaper bag! I immediately came home and put it in all diaper bags and my bag & car!
I actually bought nearly 12 boxes today! I got one for each first aid kit, (I make them myself and we have one in the car, in the diaper bag, in my purse, in the house, at DH's work, and in our second car.) One for the house, one for my purse, one extra for the car, for any place we travel frequently (ie family) I will provide them with a bottle. Yeah I think DH is right when he says I am overly prepared maybe even paranoid. Lol! I suggest putting it in your first aid kit also.
I don't have a first aid kit . . ..worst.mother.ever.  I need to make one.

Thank you so much for sharing....my kids always get eaten by mozzies when we come to LI, and I am so nervous about our trip this summer!!! I will make sure to have some benedryl in my bag!

Scary. Good thing you had the benadryl.
Same thing happened to my cousin, the day of my wedding. We were taking pics it was August and we were at the arboritum in Oakdale and she was being bitten left and right. Welts the size of lemons all over her chest. She even joked that now she filled in her dress after the bites. She took benadryl in the limo with a shot, and was good to go.

I never give my kids the Benadryl but they are allergic too. The bites and area around them swell so huge and red.
Good to know about being bit in the throat. I will keep Benadryl on hand for sure.

I will definitely keep it on hand! I forgot until I read this that I had the same thing when I was a kid. If I got a bite, wherever got bit would blow up like 3x normal size. Luckily I grew out of it, but who knows if DS will have the same problem! Thank you for sharing!!

I am highly allergic to them also. I keep Benadryl and Afterbite with me. I wear bug repellant and use the OFF clip on fan.
They are drawn to me like flies on honey and if I so much as run out to the car or mailbox in the evening I get 2-3 bites.
I find that when I have bites oatmeal baths or a cotton ball with cold witch hazel helps the itch. Calamine/Caladryl lotion or a dip at the beach, in salt water helps them heal.
I take Benadryl at night for 3 or 4 days after a bite and have a prescription anti-itch cream because I end up scratching in my sleep.
I bring pants, socks and long sleeves to every summer outdoor party we attend. It is a PITA but I live with it.
