Fearing Needles!

Anyone else HATE needles?! I think this is my biggest fear. LOL!
I have a sched c-section so getting a Spinal. With DS I had a crash c so I was put out.
Now I'll be awake, which I'm happy about, but I'm so scared to get a needle in my back

Ugh! I'm such a baby. LOL

Re: Fearing Needles!

I used to be a big baby about needles (get dizzy, pass out, etc), but had to get over my issues due to IF.

IMO, the spinal wasn't bad at all. I was so nervous in general, that I barely noticed when they did it.

You'll do great! Chat Icon

Re: Fearing Needles!

I am a really big needle hater too and pretty much get close to or even pass out when they take blood from me. I was terrified of this going in to have my DD. When they gave me the epidural I was so scared, but it just felt like strong pressure in one spot and that's it! You do not feel the tube going in and when the liquid drips, you feel a cold sensation inside of your back, along your spine.

Re: Fearing Needles!

I hate them and so does DH, worse than I do. I've gotten a little better with all the bloodwork done over the years, but I'm freaking with all that will be done when I go into labor.

There was an episode of Pregnant in Heels when one of her clients was freaking out because of the IV she would have to get and Rosie had her work with someone on her breathing techniques to calm down.

OMG! This is the only thing I think about now that it's getting close. Sorry to make you nervous hun!
We're getting sched c-sections and I keep reading how the girls say the epi is nothing compared to the contractions, but there's not going to be any contractions... Chat Icon

Re: Fearing Needles!

I had a spinal with my c-section for DD and the only thing i felt was the lidocaine shot and i could barely feel it when he did it, after that, i felt nothing. It's really not bad, im having another spinal for my c-section in August.

Re: Fearing Needles!

stop reading about it! It's the worst thing that you can do. I used to be the biggest baby when it came to needles. Up until I was a teenager, I would have to be held down in order for them to take my blood Chat Icon I pretty avoided all blood work through my teen years. I was even told once after passing out to "never have babies" because I would never make it through all the blood work. Who would have known that just few years later I would have to go through IUI treatments to get pg and I would have to get stuck with a million needles! I have pretty much gotten over it now, although I still HATE it and get queazy every time I get stuck.

Re: Fearing Needles!

I had such a fear of needles my entire life, but after IF issues, there is no way you can have that.

The only thing I can say is, the anxiety is soooooooooo much worse than the actual stick, you just have to try to concentrate on that! I'm not saying a spinal is fun and games, but its over quick!!

Chat Icon I hate needles.

I tolerated the spinal because i just kept staring forward and told them to not let me see it when they brought it in....

however the iv block in my hand........ I kept my eyes away from my hand for the majority of the 27 hours of labor. Chat Icon

Re: Fearing Needles!

When I was little, I remember being scared, but having a bazillion allergy picks during allergy testing, and then getting allergy shots 'til I was 21, kinda cured me of my fear. Mary
