Not sure. Maybe it's not really what he writes depending on where he is sending it from. When people send me emails with a smiley face in them and I get them on my Ipad, it shows a J instead of the smiley. Confused the heck out of my for a while until I figured it out.

Sorry to hijack, but I just want to address this...This used to happen when I sent emails to people in HTML format (I would notice it when they replied). I switched my email client to use "Plain Text" and it no longer changes the  to the letter "J"
