Do you replace the sand in your sandbox every year?
At a minimum, we need to add sand to our sandbox but I want to completely replace what's in there currently. I guess I feel like it's old and gross. DH sees no reason to do that and wants to know how I propose disposing of what's already in there so I'm curious to hear what others do...

I've never heard of anyone doing that. All sand is thousands, if not millions of years old, so a few more years shouldn't matter....  
You should be able to get a sieve of some type (window screen, for example), to just sift the sand through and get any non-sand items out of it.

Nope, we keep our sandbox covered so nothing gets in it. I never even thought about it.
Think of it this way... would you expect the sand at the beach to be replaced each year? That sand to me is considerably more old and gross if you ask me!

I do replace my sand once per year. The way I see it is that it sits in a covered sandbox all year and my kids dirty hands and feet are always in there. Its not like the sand on the beach that gets a batural cleaning every winter during high tides.

What do you put the old sand in? DH looked at me like I had 10 heads when I suggested trash bags.
