where will your baby go at night in hosp?

i am not sure what to do on this one. i originally wanted her with me at all times so i could BF. but then i heard from BTDT moms that it is helpful to let them go to the nursery at night so that you can sleep, and i assume this means the nurses would give formula during the night. im not sure if i want to EBF or what. would it be terrible to give the baby formula at the hosp during the night and BF during the day? does it make sense to have the nurses bring her in for feedings during the night? should i just keep her with me? i really feel so conflicted about the whole thing.

what are you doing or what have u done with your previous LOs?

I sent the boys to the nursery at night. I missed them, of course, but needed to sleep and also recover as much as possible from my c/s. I plan to do the same thing this time.

Since I did not BF with DD and will not with this one...the baby slept in the nursery from 10pm on and I got her at like 6AM. If I were BF'ing....im pretty sure they bring the baby to you every 2 hours or so at night or the baby is in your room?

I think the nursery, and I'll ask that he be brought to me for nighttime feedings.

They'll bring the baby in to you for bfing as long as you specify that you want them to. That's what I did...I would have been too nervous having DD in the room with me while I was sleeping. I know they have those anklets on but you never know!

Re: where will your baby go at night in hosp?

It's something that you will likely have to decide when you are actually there and in the situation.

While you might want to BF, there is no guarantee that your supply will be in full force at that point after delivery.

Not to mention it depends on how your recovery is going at that point. For example if you have a c/s, the recovery is pretty awful and any rest you can get is great. You can always have them keep the baby in the nursery and bring the baby to you every 2 or 3 hours.

The first night, before my baby wound up in NICU, they brought her to me around 2am for a feeding, and 5am for the next feeding. It was listed in her bassinet that I was breastfeeding her, so they made sure to bring her into my room for feedings. Unfortunately as much as I tried, she would not latch, and I was really only getting a tiny amount of colustrum coming out.

At each feeding in NICU I tried to BF her, but it was a losing battle. They brought a pump to my room and I was able to pump a little and bottle feed her as much as I could.

Re: where will your baby go at night in hosp?

I just had my son and am not breastfeeding, but I sent him to the nursery during the night. I really needed to get some rest. My roommate did breastfeed and also sent her daughter to the nursery and then they brought the baby to her every few hours. Personally I think that's easier so that you can actually rest, but you'll just have to see what works for you.

Not a twin mommy but I sent DS to the nursery. I also had a CS and needed to recover. At the time i was trying to breastfeed but opted for them to FF through the night. Most of my close friends who were BTDT moms who had breastfed sent their DC's to the nursery and highly recommended it before I gave birth to DS. I'm glad I followed their advice.

Initially I was going to have the baby stay in my room at all times, but then last week I saw a post on LIF where the baby was sent back to the nursery at night (Thank god too) b/c the baby stopped breathing and b/c the baby was in the nursery the nurses were able to catch it.

Re: where will your baby go at night in hosp?

In the nursery....all night, with bottles.

I was BFing DS and he was brought to me every two hours, I was so exhausted from birth and he was tongue tied and not latching that all it was was a cry-fest for the both of us at night, alone, in the hospital. I came home more exhausted than ever.

This time, I do not plan on BFing at all. Said DS is now almost 4 and I want to be well rested, so Mommy doesnt come home with a new baby to take care of and no energy for him. This baby will stay in the nursery, and the nurses can bottle feed him. I really just want to rest so Im in better shape for everyone when we get home.

Re: where will your baby go at night in hosp?

Both times I gave birth, I breastfed. I specifically stated that I was nursing and had the baby go back to the nursery. The nurses brought the baby to me each time at 12, 3, and 6. I then called them when the baby was done nursing. It was the best decision I made. I had a c-section the first time and was just exhausted the second time around.

Re: where will your baby go at night in hosp?

I gave birth at Winthrop, and since I didn't have a private room, I didn't have the option of keeping the baby with me at night. He stayed in my room all day, and then they would take him to the nursery at I think 11. Then, they brought him in every 3 hours for feedings (I EBF'ed). It worked out really well. I was honestly so nervous to have him in the room with me while I was sleeping because he was my first, and they are so tiny and fragile, and I was so afraid (hence why I stared at him while he slept at night for the first few weeks after we came home like a maniac lol) I was able to get a solid 2-2.5 hours of sleep at a clip and then they brought him in and as soon as I heard those wheels I would be awake and my heart would skip a beat- I could not WAIT for those nighttime feedings. It was such a special time for us. LOVED it!

if you are planning on ebf'ing, you can tell the nurses to bring the baby to you as needed through the night.

Re: where will your baby go at night in hosp?

I had a c-section, and did not BF my DD, and I sent her to the nursery each night. I missed her, but it got me up each morning and got me walking/moving to get to the nursery at the other end of the hall. It also afforded me a little bit of sleep...

My roommate was BF'ing her baby, and the nurses would bring the baby in every few hours to her....

Re: where will your baby go at night in hosp?

I am rooming in. I roomed in with my son and it is what made me most comfortable. I loved it when everyone told me to rest as if you can bank sleep. I've had massive insomnia with both pregnancies so a couple extra hours of sleep isn't making or breaking me.

She'll be in the nursery at night and brought to me for feedings (at least that's the plan as of now!)

Every single BTDT mom I've talked to recommended I do this to get as much rest as possible. Since the rooms at the hospital are double, I might even request a private room if the other person has their baby with them all night. I can't even fathom how exhausted I will be after giving birth.

I plan on BF'ing but I also plan to send the baby to the nursery at night. I have friends that breast fed that kept their babies in the nursery and had them bottle fed at night and I dont have any aversions to formula, especially not for just 2 days so Im still deciding whether to have the nurses bottle feed the baby for all the nightime feedings or to bring the baby for me for one of the nightime feedings. Either way, there will def be a bottle feed in there somewhere.
