Re: Pets..
First timer here - we have a cat and I think he will be curious at first, and then he'll be fine.
I keep thinking he'll be this protector but I know he won't care because, he's a cat. LOL!

I'm so nervous about my cat. She's so freaking old (over 17) and she HATES change. She started peeing on my shoes when I first got pregnant.

Re: Pets..
My cat stayed far away from my DD when we brought her home. I think the cat was more afraid of her. My cat isn't a jumper or a lap cat. When the nursery was done, she went in to look around and smell stuff, but she didn't jump on anything. It was almost like she knew this stuff was off limits. Once DD was on the floor on her mat or something she would be curious and we would call her over and let her sniff the baby's head while we pet her to reassure her it was ok. Now DD thinks the cat is the funniest thing in the world and they are buddies. We really had no problems at all.

We have a dog - he's 5 but thinks he's still a puppy in the sense that he gets super excited and does have a tendency to jump on guests.
Other than that we think he'll be fine - he loves everyone and isn't at all territorial. Obviously he won't ever be left alone with the baby, but I'm not worried about biting or jealousy or anything.
Fingers crossed isn't allergic!!!

Re: Pets..
we have a dog and a cat. both have sniffed around the nursery and checked everything out. my dog is a pup..1.5 years old and loves kids so im not too worried but hes super protective of his home so when we have visitors i know it will be a little bit of a problem.
my cat is 3 yrs old and kinda keeps to herself so i think she'll adjust ok.

Re: Pets..
First-timer with 2 cats (with totally different personalities).
I have a strong feeling that y little girl Illy will love this baby and be BFF with it. She's been kneeding my belly every morning at 4am-ish ever since I got pregnant. I'm convinced she knew before I knew, because she started this kneeding and sleeping next to my belly thing about a week before my BFP. One of my friends brought her baby over once and she was so curious - watching the baby, sniffing the baby, and just sitting there watching her change her babies diaper.
My big boy Leo on the other hand, will not care. He might even get mad and pee on our bed/DH's pillow (this is what he does when he gets mad at change, or lack of changing his litter box on time).

Re: Pets..
I'm worried about my cat once the arrive. She is a very shy kitty. She is very affectionate towards my DH and myself but she goes into hiding when people come over. She definitely knows something is going on because she has been very snuggly with me.

Re: Pets..
i was wondering if they would have any noticeable reaction to me being pregnant. We had 2 cats but unfortunately 1 just passed away last weekend so the other one is still in a bit of a funk (as are we)
My boy cat always comes up and lies on my lap/belly when i'm on the couch and he hasn't changed that behavior so far We haven't set up any nursery yet so there's nothing new for him to sniff around in there yet either
i hope its not too much of a change for him! he's pretty adaptable though.. he's been through a few moves and always handled it ok so i think he'll be fine

Re: Pets..
We have a dog, and have started preparing her by moving all her stuff from the baby's room into the living room, but that is really it. She is small, so she will still be allowed on the couch and the bed, but we might set up the swing and bouncer soon so she gets used to the new stuff around the house.
There are books out there on getting your pet ready, but I can't follow the instructions! They say not to tell your pet "good boy/girl" and to use their name so they know when you are talking to them vs. the baby.
Good luck!

Re: Pets..
We have a pug. She definitely knows something is up. She is super overprotective of me now more then ever. I plan on having DH bring a baby blanket home from the hospital for her to sleep with. She tends to rest her head on my belly a lot.

Re: Pets..
I'm more worried emotionally about my cat. I'm afraid she's going to hate us for turning her world upside down. But that's probably the hormones. She likes to jump into empty things like boxes, so I think that our biggest issue will be keeping her out of the baby's stuff.

we have stuff set up already and my cat instantly jumped into the crib and the bassinet. i purposely wanted things set up early enough to deter her from this behavior. i have heard to line the items with foil because cats dont like the sound/feel of it under their paws. maybe try that before bringing the baby home? i havent tried it yet.

I have a dog too! And she is 3 and sounds just like your pup - it didn't dawn on me until the other day that could possibly be allergic! That would be so sad for us, as we are HUGE dog lovers!

Re: Pets..
We have 2 cats. With DC#1, they were wary/curious at first. One of them would sleep on and knead my belly when I was PG. When we brought DC home, they both came and sniffed DC's head and went on their way.
DC is now a little over a year old and one of them has become buddies with the baby....especially since we started feeding DC solids and half the food ends up on the floor The other one kind of stays away (but she's the kind of cat that hides when people come over and is only good with DH and I anyway).

Re: Pets..
we didn't. we have 2 cats and 1 dog. They all adjusted very well. We let them lick my son whenever they wanted (while we were right there of course) and that was that. No biggie.

Re: Pets..
We ended up having ds sleep in a pack n play b/c the cats kept jumping into the bassinet and we could only find a pet tent to fit the pnp.
The were always friendly to him but as a nb we were afraid they would hurt him accidentally.
Now everyone is bffs even though he can be a little rough with them at times- they just take it, lol.
