Moms with 1 DC already?

HOw are you feeling about having to share your time now between kids?

I was laying with DS last night while he was sleeping, just playing with his hair and then all of the sudden I was crying.

I felt like I was cheating on him. That I would have to divide the time that I cuddle with him, that I would have to tell him to hold on or that I cant play with him right now bc I have to do something with the baby. I just felt bad for him and for me too. I was sad that my time with just us is coming to an end. I just felt bad and I hope he will understand.

Im very lucky in the sense that I got to give him my undivided attention for four years. That I got to see him grow from a newborn to the big boy he is now and I got to do it with just him, Im forever grateful for that.

While Im so excited for the new baby, Im just so sad too all of the sudden.

Has anyone else had this happen?

It's totally a normal feeling, but it all falls into place. I have great quality time with both of my boys. They love each other so much and light up when the other walks into the room. You are only adding to his life, not taking anything away from it!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Moms with 1 DC already?

Yes I feel the same.. My DD is only 16 months so I REALLY feel bad. With only 3 weeks left I feel like I want to spend every waking minute with her because sadly, I know once the baby comes, she wont be #1 anymore and that kills me.

BUT, at the same time, I feel like she is so young, that she wont know life any other way. And that this new baby will be good for her and for us as a family. And she will be gaining a best friend, that hopefully she will love as much as I do!

Me, Me, Me!!!! I'm having terrible guilt about it. Joey is only going to be 2. I feel like I need more time with him. I know it'll be fine but I fear he'll become a strictly Daddy's boy only since I'll mostly be the one tending to this LO

He fell asleep on me last night, in his rocking chair. I held him so long there, that I fell asleep too and Matt had to wake me up. I could've stayed there all night. He's still a mush ball when it comes to Mommy.

Re: Moms with 1 DC already?

I'm actually the opposite. With DS I was scared to have a child b/c I've always been so independent and I loved having my "me" time or me and DH time. It was weird to think things will change and I can't just go and travel, go out at night, go out with DH last minute for something... etc, etc.

Then I had a tough birth so I knew I loved DS, but we had to get to know each other. Now I LOVE being a parent. He amazes me everyday and now I know how to love another and open my heart. I can't wait to have another and share that. I also had two siblings and we have a great relationship. I can't wait for DS and the baby to have their special relationship too.

Every.single.day.

I am so happy to be bringing another life into this world, into our world. And I watch DD with other friends babies and her own dolls and I KNOW she'll be a great big sister.

And then I cry. I cry because I'm afraid to lose the special bond I have with her...she's my best bud, we do everything together. She makes me laugh, she makes me cry...and I thank God for making her such a special little person that I've had the pleasure of being Mom to. For the last almost 4 years, it's just us (and DH)...I am hers, she is mine. And now we have to share each other with another little person.

Then I cry because I feel like I'm being unfair to Chat Icon because he/she will be certainly loved and cherished and we conceived because we wanted another, we wanted to complete our family. And I don't want him/her to ever feel otherwise.

But from everyone I know who has had more than one, they have ALL gone through these feelings. And in every case (sometimes after an adjustment period) their lives have only been improved and enhanced with addition of another. Their love only grows, it doesn't divide. I keep hanging on to that......and cherishing every moment I have with just DD and me.

(I am also planning time when I am on maternity leave to leave the baby with my mom and go have "big girl" time with DD, just her and me....I think it's important to have one on one time with each child)
