I think childbirth is probably viewed as traumatic for most people. You lose all your privacy, you experience physical pain, things are out of your control, you don't know how long it will take... any one of those things could be considered "traumatic" depending on your personality. So maybe the midwife was just referring to that - the fact that childbirth is a physically and emotionally draining thing for a woman, and that the anxieties built up from that might be making it hard to sleep.
...or maybe she was just kinda insensitive, I don't know.
Either way, you know yourself and how you feel. If you don't feel any sense of trauma from your first experience, don't let her put that on you.
