Team Green and ILs
Apparently my ILs just can't accept the fact that we're team . My shower was this past weekend and my ILs bought us ALL boy stuff. They are convinced we know it's a boy and just won't tell them. They call the baby "him" and "he" and only try guessing at boy names. At my shower MIL yelled out to the room "it BETTER be a boy!"
My BIL and SIL are due a few days apart from us and they are having a girl, so I understand the desire to have one of each, but I wish they'd accept the fact that we don't know the gender and it could very well be a girl.
I really don't know what to do with the stuff they got us. Half of it is firetruck themed (DH is a firefighter) and half is sports related. They just keep saying that we could use the stuff with a girl also when I bring it up. Ummm, if it's a girl I am ok with her wearing a Yankees onsie, but boy overalls and polo shirts? Onesies with firetrucks? I don't think so. The sizes of the clothes they got are all over the place also. Some of it is 3 months, some 1 year, 24 months...I just don't know what they're thinking.

Re: Team Green and ILs
The best is when they see your sonogram and they say "looks like a boy". All babies (or fetuses in this case) look the same to me.
I'm sorry IL's have such tunnel vision. I was under the impression all parents, especially from that generation, were more excepting at not finding out.

Re: Team Green and ILs
My inlaws can't fathom the fact that I don't want to know.. my MIL was like, "why don't you care" makes me irate. BIL has a boy, and we know we was aiming for a girl (first girl on DH's side in 2 generations) and BIL is more anxious that MIL for this reason. I didn't realize it was an friggin competion, all the more reason to hold out. And all we care for is a healthy baby.. if its a I'll be happy, and if it is a My parents are so chill about it.. they keep guessing..

Re: Team Green and ILs
that's obnoxious! Do the clothes have tags? Maybe you can try to return the items even for store credit or something.

Re: Team Green and ILs
That's a little over the top! I know my IL's were ANNOYED that I didn't find out w/my first and this one too,,,,but to go ahead and buy stuff for one gender already is a bit obnoxious to me. I guess I would just wait and see... ETA: my IL's all took bets before I gave birth as to what I was having and MIL got the gender WRONG so go figure

Re: Team Green and ILs
I'm sorry to hear this! I was in the same boat as you .... team green and my sister-in-law had a girl 6 months before our LO was born. Everyone was saying to make it "even." Hopefully, you have the tags on teh clothes and, if need be, you can return or exchange them.
Just FYI, I did end up having a !

Re: Team Green and ILs
Well, my MIL thinks we are having a boy because of the way I am carrying (all in front). Her friend's daughter has 2 boys and was getting rid of baby clothes so MIL took them and gave them to us. I asked if we should return the clothes if we have a girl and she said "No, these are yours to keep. But with kids at that age, it doesn't matter what you put on them." Um.. yes it does! Sorry but if we have a girl she is gonna be my girly girl and not wear boy clothes. I'm not sure if she told DHs godmother that she really believes it's a boy because the godmother made us a beautiful blanket.... in green, yellow and blue. I can see the green and yellow but blue? Why not add pink too? Not a big deal, it's a beautiful blanket. Just that if we have a girl, it won't go with her bedroom. Oh well.

Re: Team Green and ILs
We were "team Green" The only people besides this board, myself, and my husband that knew was my mom. At 24wks she went all porn star and we knew, but never said. EVERYBODY except my grandfather, and 2 aunts swore it was a boy. My shower was gender neutral except my sisters, and my dad/step-mom bought me ALL boy stuff I have alread been told this time we had better have a boy Some people are just tools about it. Just smile and move on. When my DD was born they all melted into a million pieces over Emmy and they have NEVER EVER said anything about wishing she was a boy.

Re: Team Green and ILs
first of all --- they're just plain crazy. I've never even met your MIL and I know she's all kinds of crazy. I wouldn't take anything they say to heart. And you bet I'd keep the clothes in bags with the tags on until that baby is out, and if it's a girl, they can return/exchange everything.
second, how awesome would it be for 2 little girl cousins to be so close in age!?! They could have the greatest sister relationship!

Re: Team Green and ILs
In laws can be totally ridic! My MIL KNOWS we are having a girl, and at my shower she gave me blue (very boy looking) bibs that say I love daddy, and a yellow and blue (also boy looking) onesie that says something about loving nana & papa...
When we told her we were having a girl, she responded by saying that one day if I have a boy, I'll be so happy and proud to have a son...SHE HAS 2 OF EACH!!!! So bizarre!
